I was very close to buying a 1967 911 S in terrible condition but with its original engine for $20000 in 2010.
Paid a deposit but bottled out because the overseas shipping worried me and thought the restoration costs of the rusted through body would be too high. frown

£2000 for a 365 coupe back in I think 1987, £12,500 for a DB2/4 in 1993 and £15000 for a mint 308GT4 in 2010

Yes, there have been a few and there are many more I have managed to forcefully forget.........

When I was a student back in 1977 or 78 there was a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 for sale to around NZD$26,000 at one car sales close to where I lived, and a Dino 246 at another for around NZD$18,000 (about GBP 8500 and 6000 respectively). OK, I could not afford either, but if I had sold my wife and children, with current prices for these two cars I would have been in clover now...

DC2 Integra. Bought an EP3 Civic instead and it was a bit mediocre. The Integra is now a legend. I should also have bought an Alfa 75 3.0 Cloverleaf when I was offered one for the same price as a 33 Permanent 4. I bought the 33 thinking it would be a junior Integrale...doh!

Ex works ComputerVision liveried Metro 6R4 as used by, I was led too believe, Tony Pond.

It lived in our garage at home for almost 12 months because we couldn't sell it & the boss wanted it out of the showroom so I volunteered to look after it.

Was offered the chance to buy it for around £15k however my dad refused to spend that much money for what, in his words, was 'a bloody Metro'.

So it went back up for sale. A few years later it was sold for £45k!!!!!

I was also offered an ex Nigel Mansell JPS liveried Lotus Esprit for £3k.

I had just bought a house so didn't have the money. I truly regret not buying that car.

A Focus RS instead of the R.

Although only for the weekends as I don't think I could put up with the Focus during the weekdays.

In 2009 I came close to buying a very nice '73 BMW 2002 in my favourite colour (Atlantik Blue) for 1,500 quid. The same car would probably be worth 8,000 now.

Ok it's not a huge gain in the grand scheme and the Caterham I bought instead gave me a fantastic time but still...

In those (auction) situations it helps to remind yourself that you may not've got it for £7200, or even £7500. Who's to say what price you'd have been bid against up to! Still annoying, but makes it slightly less annoying to play over in your mind!
That's exactly the logic I have been using to make myself feel better; £7500 plus the ludicrous indemnity fee would be £8000 which is roughly what they are selling for privately.

Not me, but a guy at work was umm-ing and ahh-ing about whether he should get a Porsche 930 Turbo, or a RHD Ferrari 365 Daytona. Both were around the £30k mark at the time. He decided he'd use the Porsche more often so got that. About 6 months later Enzo Ferrari died and the price for Daytonas went stratospheric.

Having said that, his Porsche has been sat rusting in his garage for the last 11 years, so maybe it's for the best.

Rather minty Alfasud Cloverleaf for £500.
Good luck with one of those. I had to move mine with a broom several months after I bought it hehe
Same here. Had to drop the engine and box down after the handbrake cable snapped, those inboard discs were a terrible idea, terminal rust everywhere, and a tick over misfire that was eventually traced to it having porous inlet manifolds.

Sounded pretty good though, once you got it going.

A freshly built 2.6 chevette hsr by mtrs in burton upon Trent.

All the correct bits, dogleg getrag, five link rear, 2.6 16v vauxhall head slant four. Full cage, road registered and ready to rally. While not a factory hsr, it was a beautiful car.

Bought an astra sr for similar money as I could not insure the hsr.

I'm with him.

"Could off brought"

I've never made the 'mistake' to write/say that.

Anyway, I should have bought a E46 CSL before they went sky high.

In 2009 I wrote off my Tuscan frown
I told my wife I wanted a full convertible but that I couldn't afford one as they were all £30k plus.
My wife set about finding one.
She came to me with two, both at £24k, a 2006 and a 2005.
I bought the 2006 but still to this day don't understand why I didn't buy both of them.
