Anyone any experience or knowledge on high mileage V10's? Car in question is s6.

Car has done in excess of 150k, but has FULL Audi history, and recently had all lamda sensors done and new inlet manifold.

Car is priced to suit mileage, and I accept that at these miles resale and wear and tear could be issues.

Always fancied an s8 but can't justify the price when I do around 50 miles a week!

I've just bought an S6 avant. 2006 with 128,000 miles on it. Runs sweet as a nut. I've previously had an S6 saloon with around 100,000 miles on which ran without problem too.

Why was the manifold changed? Was it coked up?

Cheers for the feedback.

Will ask the seller about inlet.

Swirl flaps were the reason behind inlet manifold being changed.

It sounds like it has had a lot of TLC over the years.

My fear is selling it on in 6 months when I get bored.

Mine had a problem with the swirl flaps too. It resulted in the EML being illuminated. Turns out one of the rods had come off the motor which controls them. Popped it back on and fabricated a securing clip. Sorted the problem out. I've heard that the swirl flaps can get gummed up too.

Surely if you get the car at the right price, you'll be able to shift it on without too much of a loss. Are you buying private or from a dealer. In any event, the only thing you'll get bored of is the fuel economy...

Private purchase.

I do such little miles, the fuel shouldn't be too much of an issue.

From my research, they seem bullet proof engine wise, but having that mileage on, I just need to make sure I've got no seriously heavy expenses other than a Milltek!

Mine didn't stand me that much and I do low miles as well.

I had a Milltek on my last one. Cost around £1150 fitted by Awesome GTI in Irlam. I can't really justify getting a Milltek on this one as the price of the exhaust would be a sizeable percentage of the cost of the car. I bespoke exhaust place has quoted me £450 plus vat for new backboxes though. I might go for that.

a simple rear resonator delete will do quite a bit too - usually around 200 quid to take out the back resonators and put in a simple set of straight sections (or a h-pipe if you are feeling flush)

not quite milltek awesomeness but not bad either!

I fancied doing that but some others on here rubbished it saying that the car would sound like a dirty NASCAR...

I had it done, and its fine so long as you dont take out the front resonators as well (that does sound pretty nascarish). think of it as a milltek lite smile

So you're running without backboxes and just straight tailpipes? I thought it was the two smaller cylindrical baffles that you deleted. Interesting...

nope

you have a front resonator, rear resonator and back box on each side. I took out the rear resonator.

so I was running with front resonator, and back box, with (in my case) an x-pipe replacing the rear resonated section.

Sounds good to me! A Milltek would be a big chunk of the purchase price, so at £200ish, I'd be doing that I reckon.

So in this picture, the rear resonators would be the cylindrical ones towards the top of the picture?

i believe so - there is a section missing from the front of that exhaust from what I can see that has the front resonators in it)

in a milltek its the other way round fwiw. the resonated system has no front resonators, and a rear set and back box

stock (h= h-pipe or balance pipe)

Right. I've got you now. I might go for that too. Will nip to an exhaust place and try and get the job priced up.

Been to see it and driven it...what a beast.

Just absolutely terrified of the mileage.

Its had fortunes spent on it over the years, and drives like a new car, just need to grow a set!

It could get frighteningly expensive if it goes wrong...

You sure it has to be that well used?

Mines had full audi service history, new tyres and pads and discs all round before I bought it.

Servicing is cheap even at main dealers. They have fixed prices servicing for cars older than 3 years. Minor is £189. Major is £365 and that includes two air filters and ten platinum spark plugs. Bargain!

It's a big lazy old v10 lump, no turbos, no dpf. Get it bought.

It's sat out the front now.
