It is years since I went to the Pod and this year my wife has booked a weekend ticket for a gift for me. I have a motorhome, but from memory of camping there in the past, it was a free for all. Has it changed or is it just as bas as it always was.
I have matured now so being kept up by beer swilling guy's does not really appeal.

Any views from you seasoned guy's

Yes it's still free, and as to the all nighters there are still a few, but you can always go into the family camping/quiet camping area

There is a noise curfew at a sensible time, site security usually get round to sorting out offenders though not always in my experience.
Take some ear plugs just in case!!!
It's generally a civilised atmosphere these days and drunken nuisances few and far between.

Congratulations for the ticket, she´s a keeper for sure.

What Weekend is it, FIA, National Championship, other like Bug Jam, Dragstalgia ?

Family Camping is quiet and closer to the pits where there is lots to look at,

but a little longer walk towards the "fairground / food / Bar" area. Pushbike is quite handy.

There is a good overview map on the SPR Website.

The camping (family camping) on the far right of the map is what you want as others have said, stop at the 'ticket & pass collection' office & ask for a family camping pass (free), without it you wont get past the several jobsworth helpful staff further along the road. +1 on the pushbike as well. Which event are you going to ?

It is the Summer Nationals, which should be good. If it all goes well we might get to the one in September as well.

Thanks for the advice all.

What the OP actually asked was, "is it a free for all", not was it free...lol

The one and only visit I made to POD was Total Vauxhall 2004, and there was no fking curfew, the bd welsh near my tent, partied all night and then started dohnuting at 3 am. Not impressed. The bogs were st too. Take your own chemical loo or stay at billing aquadrome instead.

Very interesting...

Fortunately the OP, isn't going to a chavtastic lifestyle event and has asked where there are quieter places on site and I'm sure he will probably have the common sense to check if any Welsh people are nearby, before camping there....

More a problem of the audience than the venue methinks.

I've stayed at the pod before, at racing events there are few problems.

The only scary one was when the official fireworks set fire to the field next to the camping area that was just stubble after harvest. Could have been very nasty as everything was packed in like sardines and there was no hope of getting tents/caravans out. The only thing that stopped it was a narrow ditch between the two fields, there was literally a few feet between flames and caravans/tents, if one had gone up they all would have gone. All too close together and randomly placed, blocking each other. You can see why the caravan club used to (maybe still do) enforce a 20 foot gap between units with units in rows so they can be pulled out easily and quickly.

They don't use that bit for camping any more and from what I've seen provide a bit more space.

The Nationals dont attract the biggest crowds, mainly the hardcore UK based fans.
There is usually plenty of camping space available so can be well spread out.

I would still request a family camping pass though.

Don't you just love the way they have put the disabled parking as far away from the start line and showers as they can

Do you mean the disabled car park that is close to the disabled viewing area?

...that has an elevated concreted level viewpoint of the whole racetrack thus allowing a view of whole races from start to finish whilst ruling out the need for x-ray glasses to see through the tourists or kids that only suddenly appear on shoulders right in front of you every time a top fuel race starts, or at best a craned neck? That one?

Yes, perfectly reasoned why they put it there.

and as far as I know there are no disabled accessible showers anyway, happy to be corrected . . .

I'm a big fan of the upgrades made in recent years, but the lack of showers accessible for the less
abled among us is frustrating. have i gone off topic? sorry smile

I will stand corrected if I am wrong, I think you will find the showers in the pits on the map as pit w/c and showers in red, include disabled shower faccilities, certainly access is fom level ground with no steps or ramps

If it really is a concern call Santa Pod they are always very helpfull

When Keith Bartlett took over the site, he promised to plough the money back in and upgrade the pits, toilets, access road, strip etc etc and so far he has been as good as his word, it really is a world class site now
