Hi - a quick reference question.

Anyone know what noise level a standard 996 GT3 exhaust is meant to have?
I appreciate that this can increase with cats/exhaust on the way out, etc, but just looking for what the noise level should be on a factory set up.

Thanks.

Hi dude

Mine was pretty consistent at 101 when I had it until near the end when it ramped to 105 - think it was on the way out.

Cheers

Pretty much on the limit 105db when (often) tested at Oulton Donington Cadwell etc.

Mine is generally 104-106db when tested at Oulton, Bedford and Brands.
996.2 GT3 with standard exhaust.

Thanks all.

I am looking at some exhaust options and the supplier is suggesting +3dB and +5dB solutions....was trying to see how close these get to the magic 105dB number for the better tracks.

...sounds like +3dB is the safer bet

FYI, never trust a suppliers listed db level, add at least 3 to that to be safe. All from experience.

The standard system in decent condition is borderline on static test for most circuits in the UK.

On drive-by they are generally fine, even at Bedford which is the most strict. But any kind of modification tends to tip them over.

If you can, keep it stock. That's my advice if you want to track in the UK. And it's only going to get worse.

Have a chat with Kline Inovation they built me a custom quite exhaust for the 997 they also do 996 versions.

Top Gear Bridport Steve Kilcoyne (MD) 01308 427588 was the agent I used. He is the step father of Christian one of the main guys at Kline.

Very happy with my system comes in at about 102-104 on static tests last year.

Err I'd run from TG at Bridport. They've allegedly been passing off fake Kline exhausts which they've had manufactured on the cheap in Taiwan according to Felix Kline...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwnprteAnjg,

Intoxicating but I suspect its a no no. I've heard the Akaprovic which also sounds brill just like this vid in fact.

Thanks all for the advice and recommendations.

I've decided to work with Ken @ 9e with one of his developments. Its a switchable bypass solution so should help with trackdays particularly if I end up changing the cats in the future. They know the car well as they look after it anyway.

Will post up how it turns out.

Ha - That sounds like a spitfire!...I won't be able to get it out of the garage let alone on a track day! smile
