I did the exact same thing. Pure speculation of course.
If anything it will be a "sendoff special" for the 981.2, so we won't see it for another 3-4 years if it happens.
With the right bits it could be the RS 4.0 of Caymans. No doubt it'll expensive.
Definitely will be mega bucks and RS 4.0 of caymans would be epic. I seem to remember Apolo saying that it will go ahead in one of the other threads. I guess we'll see soon enough. If anything it will be a "sendoff special" for the 981.2, so we won't see it for another 3-4 years if it happens.

So what about the V8 mid engined car ??
To what do you think AP was referring when he said that the GT4 had been developed with substantial synergy to a second project that was running in parallel ??
988 ?
I reckon they will do the 988, apparently loads of LOIs already down for that one. GT4RS? Who knows? Nobody thought they'd ever do a GT version of the Cayman and now we know that's not true. Here's hoping they do and that its a little more hardcore! To what do you think AP was referring when he said that the GT4 had been developed with substantial synergy to a second project that was running in parallel ??
988 ?
I agree, GT4 --- Porsche were listening. Even down to the 5 lug wheels --- to use an Americanism.
Reasons to be cheerful, and also to be hopeful.
For interest, whilst I was the first on the list for GT4 (and GT4RS) I was at that time only 4th on the list for 988.
I understand why the rear engine works, I just don't understand why anybody would want to drive around this when the risks can be so high and the Cayman platform exists --- and for me its a smaller car, which is a very big help on small roads.
My 2p ...

To me that synergy talk seemed more like a hint at the manual GT3 RS than anything else... the modified "manual 7 DSG" in current 991s doesn't seem very pleasant to use in comparison and clearly the demand for manual demand is there. Not everybody wants to buy a new baby-GT car to use a manual. I understand the new linkage in the GTS fixed a lot of the problems with the 7 speed but still. To what do you think AP was referring when he said that the GT4 had been developed with substantial synergy to a second project that was running in parallel ??
988 ?
The 988 will probably the hybrid+V8 car "for mortals". I expect a mid-engine coupe making extensive used of 918 technology for around £220k.
Cayman as the entry car, GT4 variant with n/a engines and manual for non-competitive track enthusiasts
911 as the do-everthing car, GT3 variant for track enthusiasts
988/960 as the "Supercar" and competitive race car
918 as the halo car
GT4 RS at a significantly higher price point seems likely to me. AP said they are open to producing more variants if the GT4 is well received.
Clearly they left some room for improvement for those who want a hardcore track-tool Cayman GT4. Won't happen until the 981 facelift is on its way out...

I don't want to derail the thread but I understand the appeal for cars like the GTS/Turbo which are genuinely quick but quite useable cars in everyday life because of the rear seats. Once you go GT3 Clubsport and delete the rear seats, that's where the concept seems to fall apart for me. Give me a Cayman with the GT3 engine and RWS over that any time of the day. Minus the fires if possible...

Yes Cayman with GT3 engine and greater focus out of the box would be just what the doctor ordered. Not too bothered about the RWS, doubt they'll do that though, it'll be far too quick!Once you go GT3 Clubsport and delete the rear seats, that's where the concept seems to fall apart for me.
