Hi All,

I've had an BMW E92 330i for 15 months. I'm not sure when I'll be looking to change, but a RS250 is tempting me.

I'd certainly opt for a cup version, am I correct in thinking that red brake calipers and grooved discs means it is a cup? What paperwork would detail this? Are there any other 'give aways'?

The options I'd be looking for: black paint, recaros, sports monitor, 18" wheels. Is there anything else?

My commute is circa 10 miles of B roads, but I often make longer journeys on weekends, how is the comfort long distance?

Cheers

You can tell if it's a cup from the red calipers and the grooved discs. It *may* say on the V5, but if it's a full fat + cup chassis then it probably won't mention it (mine doesn't). You can also tell from the wheels. Cup cars will have the black wheels (non cup have anthracite). Of course, this is irrelevant if they've gone for the 19" - which you can get on any model.

Definitely go for a Cup version, the car is all about the front end grip and the limited slip diff is a must.

Definitely get the RS Monitor if you can find a car with it (easily spotted as the screen will say RenaultSport instead of Renault when it starts up). Most of the features are pointless but I find the ability to adjust the throttle very useful (and I always set it to "linear" which is only available if you have the monitor).

I've got the leather Recaros in mine and it's always been very comfortable over long distances. We did Cardiff to Norfolk and back over a weekend last year and it was very comfortable. I've also done Cardiff to Nurburg in a day and the car just lapped it up. It's a good motorway cruiser. It's quiet at motorway speeds, but really comes alive when you start to press on. If your commute involves a few b-roads then you'll have a great drive in the morning smile.

Frame has just about coverd it, the monitor will give you oil temp also which is great so you don't go ragging it before the oil is warmed up, the leather recaros are excellent and wear much better than the cloth, I have 18 inch wheels in mine I found them better suited to our roads a choice I was reminded of everytime I serviced one with 19's
The stereo has no bass so if you like music you will either have to throw a bass bin in the back and or change the pap speakers, above all its a great car mine is o about 80k now and has been great Im still enjoying it
It has worn very well indeed and even my drivers seat bolster is mint but I am a skinny so and so which helps
Keep the tyres good with tyre pressures in good order keep the oil clean and you will love it biggrin
Ps to activate the sport mode hit the esp button and as frame said if you can set the throttle to linear I also find it the best setting for road use when pressing on yes

I was very fortunate with my 250. I had a few must have options I wanted and ended up finding a 250 with them plus more. My 250 has:

Full fat with cup packs, so has dual climate etc..
The 18 inch alloys
Leather Recaros
Visibility pack = Direction Bi-Xenon lights/ folding side mirrors/electrochromatic rear view mirror
Renaultsport montior
Panoramic sunroof
Spare wheel (I believe this was an option)
Arkamys sound system (supposedly an upgrade to the standard system but I find it is quite rubbish!)

For me personally, I feel i really hit the jackpot in terms of spec. Luckily it was with a dealer who didn't really know what the car was or what were options, so I got a great deal too.

As for advice on options:

Stick to making sure you get a cup or one with cup packs, in my opinion the LSD is a significant part of what this car is about.
When I was looking to buy I wasn't considering the panoramic sunroof but this is now one of my favourite extras! The car feels so different depending on if the blind is open (light and airy cabin) or closed (dark and confined cabin), I tend to have it open 95% of the time.
I am glad I went for the RS Monitor, opposed to the satnav, as I enjoy its features (and I'd rather use Google Maps on my phone for my occasional navigation needs).
I also think, if going for Recaros, the leather Recaros are the better option as the fabric Recaros are much more prone to wear.
I've never compared my 250 with a 250 without the visibility pack but I find the bi-xenons fantastic, both dipped and on full blast.
