Currently researching a 40th birthday present for myself for later in the year and I am currently draw towards a couple of Tudor's.

I know nothing about them though. Style offer substance or decent make?

They're Rolex's sub-brand.

Hi, I'm selling a rather nice Black Bay if that particular version appeals to you. Feel free to get in touch if you're interested. Being my first Tudor, I have to say that the quality is very impressive and I received many compliments in a year of ownership.

I love them I have to admit.

However, being in the lucky position to be able to have bought a Rolex GMTII BLNR last year they've slipped down the pecking order a little.

That said I'd have had one if I had been at that price point in a heartbeat.

Thanks guys. Sounds promising.

Martin, thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't be looking to purchase for at least a couple of months, just started to look around and get some ideas before trying some on.

Great well made watches, cheap to service, what's not to like.

I wouldn't say my Heritage chrono was as well made as either my Breitlings or Omegas.

I certainly didn't expect the shield logo parts to fall out of the crown just outside of warranty,,.

They use Swatch Eta movements though. Why dont they use Rolex movements if a Rolex sub brand?

Because then they'd cost as much as a Rolex and nobody would buy them.......simples!

They're not as nice as I thought they would be. When I tried the Pelagos and Black Bay on, I was very underwhelmed.
They seem a little, well, flat, to me at least. But they see. To get a lot of love here, so maybe I'm wrong. Just try on before you buy.

Wise words. I always try on watches before I buy as they are such a personal thing.

Probably not given how many movements Rolex knock out in a year, but if they sold a Tudor with a Rolex movement for 2 grand they'd struggle to justify selling the Rolex for 3 times the price...

Anyway, as others have said, if you like a watch in their range, buy with confidence, but don't expect it to hold its value like a Rolex.

As for them not being as well made as a Breitling or Omega, that's probably reflected in the price, although bits falling off is not acceptable (unless the watch had been abused).

Christopher Wards sell for a quarter - or less - of the price and people won't accept that from them.

I have owned the Black Bay blue and the Pelagos. The first I kept for 48hrs, the second for 72hrs. Gorgeous in photos, decently made, nice history and proper heritage. On the wrist... It just didn't happen for me really. I think the Pelagos was a couple of mm too big for me and it's a very flat watch although i loved the tech and the detailing on it.

At their price point, they are quite good value compared to the other High Street brands; but they are no Rolex. Second hand values (BB can be had for 1200-1500 and I just sold my Pelagos for under 1800) they are a great price.

I've not tried one on but seeing them recently in shop windows has changed my opinion slightly. I'll agree that some of them appear to photo better. But then I wasn't really struck on my Exp 2 till I got it on my wrist so I'll hold final judgement till I get one on.

The heritage chrono still looks amazing.

But their movements cost more to produce than the ETA used in a Tudor,
