My newly acquired Megane 275 trophy. Replaced my clio 197

Congratulations!

I LOVE Clios but this is a true "giant killer", on dry tarmac in the Alps I would fancy my chances in this over pretty much anything at any price!

Was out in Herts/Essex back roads early last sunday following a 458 Speciale, Very tricked up E92 M3 and a well driven and fettled C63. In those circumstances the Trophy easily matches them but I was deeply impressed by the Ferrari. Very rare to see one driven like that and its just a weapon. I suspect on any more open roads the Speciale would be ballistic. 600+ BHP, huge grip, super fast transmission and some very clever electronics.
Definitely a right road / right car scenario isn`t it but the Megane seems to suit the kind of roads that I like best, I see that you have had a GTR that was the same spec as the one I have now, I`m SURE the GTR wouldn`t see which way the Megane went after 3 miles of some Alpine roads though I`m sure a Speciale would be a different story!
The Renault is very easy to extract the very best from. Communicative and friendly , even if it does wag its rear end in extremis , and generates massive corner speeds really in all conditions. Its also narrow enough and tall enough to give decent visibilty. Something like a Speciale is certainly more intimidating but if driven hard its really stupidly fast. I would say on wider , more open roads the GTR would be , and is, bloody fast too in the same sort of way. Just that the Megane is easily as fast as any road requires outside an empty German autobahn. So you get back up to the Supercar so quickly the gap is momentary and the twistier bits sees you all over the back of them.

I'm with you, I've had an R26.R for 5yrs and pretty much only drive it in the Alps, as you mentioned RE corner speeds, sometimes it makes me wonder what I would do with something like an Aventador or something of that type because some apex speeds in the Renault are what I consider the limit on public roads, whether that be cornering at the exact speed limit without slowing on a well sighted bend or not!

I'm taking the GTR away next week and havn't even planned to use my favourite roads, I'll be using roads much more suited to a GT car!

Me too, my brother inlaw bought a 255 new and I ran it in for him, at the time I was totally underwhelmed by the power and the fact that sideways wasn't really on the menu but I now really fancy one, the miles vs price ratio is changing quickly though! :-(

Nope, I was near there but didn't go down that road. I was too busy washing off the insects and bird impact marks from Sunday's hoon!
