Electronic parking brake has started flashing as needing a service, fault light has been intermittent for a few days.

Now is locked on and wont release.

Tried every combination of brake pedal push pull / push lever but it wont release.

Have read that it could be an ecu problem , so disconnected the battery in the hope it may re set itself ,of course no joy frown

Any ideas gratefully received before I have to get the car recovered to a garage.

I'd probably call a local specialist and see if they can offer any advice. Depending on how far you are from one, they might even be willing to come and have a look to save you the hassle/expense of getting it to them.

Pushed my luck and done another battery disconnect and left it for 20 minutes.

Got lucky and brake released , now taped over so I can't activate it again , until it gets looked at on Thursday.

after 400 quid of replacement parts and re programming of the ecu , the problem has returned .

Car was stuck on my drive.

Had to disconnect the wiring and put a 12v supply on it to wind the pistons back so the wheels can turn.

At least allowed it to be driven to the garage , but with a sharp beeping noise sounding, as the ecu still thinks the handbrake is not properly released.

God knows what they can try now !

Surfing the Volvo sites , this is not an uncommon problem either.

Very basic solution to this.

I had asked them to check the pads for wear when it first went in.

But somehow the Knightsbridge monkey didn't bother despite having the car on 3 occasions , surely it's the first thing you look at when there is any brake problem.

Finally they put a mechanic on it , who straight away noticed pads were worse than bad , swapped them out and all is good.

Just need to speak with them about all the unnecessary new parts they fitted.
