Today among the numerous Gatsos on the M90 there were two speed camera vans northbound and one hand held speed camera southbound.

Are Police Scotland under pressure to raise funds?

Seriously, that seems overkill.

Someone in office whose son works in force told me no traffic cars after 8pm on motorways as no budget for fuel

If you have a crash beat bobbies turn up... I take it with a pinch of salt ...but

A90 South bound about 16:00 their was a scamera van just outside Forfar, where it normally is on a Friday at that time.

Hate those vans, the traffic using the guns I can live with. At least they have some form judgement. Those vans are just there to make money.

The PS tactic seems to be to saturate (relatively speaking) one road for a few hours. Have seen the same thing happen on the M74 and A9, although in the latter case only before SPECS was installed.

I saw one car pulled yesterday south bound from Forfar, and another by a silver unmarked audi outside Michelin factory. I think the saturation theory has some merit.
I'm not looking forward to biking season starting - may have to buy a H****y

Plenty of threads saying the same thing.

Welcome to the politicised world of Scottish policing.

It is always the case on that road and was so before Police Scotland was introduced. It's a road it's just not worth the risk pushing the limits as there is often police tucked away waiting.

The accident record on the A90 is shocking, so I guess they'll always have an argument for extra policing.

There was a camera van yesterday just past Dundee heading on the way up to Aberdeen. I was pushing it a little and was maybe doing an actual 75 when I spotted it on the horizon so to speak and braked a bit. The van overtaking me however...

Ching ching! 3 points!

Does it really have a shocking accident record?

I'm aware there's at least one scamera van when I drive to/from Aberdeen. Virtually every time.

Seems more like 'easy pickings' to me rather than road safety.

It has a poor record. If you drive that road regularly , like I do, I'm sure you'll have see some near misses and big accidents?

Just look how many junctions and crossings there are on a 70mph road. That's not normal.

It doesn't matter where speed cameras are, people always say they are easy pickings. Strangely you rarely see cameras on the M90/M9/M8 where there is more cars to catch and the roads are more open to do higher speeds.

Just don't exceed the speed limit by a margin and you'll never be an easy picking.

Also it isn't the M90 between Dundee and Aberdeen, it's the A90. The M90 is long finished back at Perth.

Yep, removing hi viz to blend in better behind trees/foliage on the A90. Leaving vehicles parked out of site on up sloping on ramps [Longforgan east] and "hiding" like kids playing cowboys and indians but with a laser gun...

So I think it's fair to say that Police Scotland have been directed to wage war on the motorist.

On Saturday around lunchtime I was heading south and between Aberdeen and Edinburgh saw 4 scamera vans on the northbound side of the road, i assumed to catch the football fans heading to Aberdeen. Nothing Southbound, seems very targeted whatever they were out for!

I regularly drive between Aberdeen to Forfar, and have done for years. You're right, there are a lot of near misses and big accidents, but from what I've seen, the standard of driving and, as you say, the number of junctions and crossings, are the reason for these, not people speeding. Even at 70mph the things I've seen happen could quite easily turn into big accidents - so I genuinely don't see these vans doing much to improve the safety on that road.

A bit of investment in some flyovers (e.g. Laurencekirk), slip roads, lighting, etc., would have a much bigger impact on the accident rates IMO.

The need to improve the standard of driving is unfortunately a national problem, not just on the A90!

I agree with your point about not going much over the speed limit though - back in my stupid youthful days I got up to silly speeds and spent the whole time scanning for speed traps, where as now I just bung the cruise control on at a little above 70mph and don't have to worry what's waiting.

As I've said before, if you don't like it here, you are free to move on.

You somehow managed to twist lots of threads to get your digs in and most(probably all)of them are pointless and unnecessary.

It's not as if anywhere else in the UK has speed cameras, camera vans, unmarked cars or highway patrol, is it?

You live in a strange little bubble.

I guess I'll be sitting at 70 the whole way down to Sheffield then. It'll be good for my mpg at least!
