Not the suv making giant it is now but the car company that came back from the brink to make great medium volume sports cars for a while.

If so could cars like the V6 cup become highly collectable, and the lotus equivalent of the 2.7 rs?

Looking at the cup it has a timeless quality to it you just do not see in the modern porsches, I could imagine in 20 years getting in one and thinking yes, this is what sports cars were like in their heyday - before we all drove lighting quick electric cars

Asking opinion of those who know a lot more about the cars. Or is it, an old chassis being strung out on a shoe string budget.

Maybe its both with a bit of old fashioned engineering talent mixed in

elise s1, elise s2, europa s/se,exige s1, exige s2, 340, and 211 models are all cars which if bought and looked after will not depreciate and values now are starting to creep up.
As for the exige v6 I fail to see it not following this trend but still a bit to new, as is the elise s3, for it to of started but imo it will.
The difficulty is which one will be the one which rockets? I would suggest the highest price ones in the future will be the exige s1 the 340 and the europa (vested interest in that one)

I'd add the Esprit to that list, its time has finally come I think. Values/sale prices have been creeping up slowly for the past year or two. Mint S1s or good restoration jobs are fetching top prices and the later V8s are heading north of £30k for the right car - a low mileage mint 2003 V8 near me has just sold for £34k. And as for rarities like the S300 £50k plus is achievable - http://www.scottwalkers.co.uk/cars/car.php?id=171

All irrelevant of course as I won't be selling my V8 any time soon. But its nice to know I have an appreciating asset......
