Will be taking delivery of the above towards the end of next month.

Intending to do a track day at Anglesey, which is 98db drive by and 105db static.

Does anyone know if I'm likely to struggle with these limits?

I assume you have a duratec?

I have the same, R400D on Caterham RBTBs, though am running a Raceco silencer but no cat. At Rockingham last year I was below 98db static.

So, while the Raceco exhaust will be quietening things down a bit for me, I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with the standard exhaust set-up.

One thing to say though, a couple of times I've had some mapping and throttle issues with my car (now all sorted) and that changed the noise HUGELY. While it certainly looked awesome for it to be spitting flames on overrun, it wasn't conducive to quiet running!

If you have the foam filter you may be on the limits of that so it worth getting it checked beforehand and think of fitting an airbox, but the exhaust should be OK if you leave the Cat fitted.

Ah, good point, in the above I was running Caterham's carbon airbox.

I am looking out for a carbon airbox, but caterham are out of stock at the moment.

The trackday exhaust system is now standard, so I hope that will help.

Hello,

I''ve a similar spec R400; narrow body on Caterham RBTBs, Raceco exhaust. Common a muck by the sounds of it :-)

The car has been driven on many UK tracks; Donington and Croft have particular noise issues and were OK, but close. MSV circuits have not been a problem. I've not been as far west as Anglesey and haven't bothered with the most noise sensitive ie Goodwood and Bedford as I suspect the car would be marginal and I don't want a wasted day short shifting.

I fitted the " carbon air filter cover, race" (different to the under-bonnet setup which was available- no experience of that) from the outset. I think it makes a significant difference, having run at Le Mans without, my tinnitus tells me so.

Would have to recommend some sort of measure to reduce induction noise. If you are cutting a hole in the bonnet, I may have a template for the filter-cover type hole somewhere in the garage.

Most of all, enjoy your new car!!

HAHA, clearly a very common car!

FYI - The airbox on mine is the under-bonnet type.

You won't have a noise issue at Anglesey they never test at least not in the 15 years I've been going there including last weekend
Great circuit especially the coastal
Take plenty of fuel nearest is in valley 25 mins there and back

In my old K series, I used to take 2 20 litre jerry cans, and rarely came close to using both. Should I expect similar in the R400D?

I tell you it's a great track and you just don't want to get off
Might see you there

I run my r400 with rbtbs, carbon air box, Raceco silencer and no cat. Never had a problem at any track including Bedford. Haven't tried Goodwood - I know that would be a noise test too far!

Does anyone have any pictures of the different enclosed airbox types? Where di you source them from?

In January I was told by Caterham that they didn't expect to be getting anymore of the C400 air filter cover but they did leave the door open by saying they could ask if the supplier would make some more. It was a pretty negative call from Caterham frown

I left it for a few weeks and on Friday last week decided to visit the parts site to get the part number and give them a call.
To my surprise they had updated the site to say it was now a special order part and to call Gatwick parts dept and amazingly they had one in stock!
,
I called them to check and the chap was surprised himself that they had them so needless to say I bought it smile

So yes you can get them, no idea how long a special order takes though.
