I have a 2001 Bugeye that has been resprayed at some point (though not well) and I am now getting some corrosion showing on the forward lip of both rear wheel arches.

Can this be sorted now by a small repair patch? Rubbing back and re-painting? Or is it a case of changing the whole arch?

Thanks in advance for help.

youtube is your friend here... loads of videos on treating rust and touch up repairs on your driveway

but if you can rub back to silver metal, treat what you can with a rust eater go for a touch up... what have you got to loose?
cant see you needin a new panel if its not rotted all the way through the metal

Thanks for that, will have a look at YouTube.

Thankfully I know someone with a ramp so that should make it easier, does anyone have a preferred supplier for 02c paint and which rust inhibitor would anyone recommend?

The alternative is to leave it as it is - just very gently with a soft cloth T cut the staining away - you will find the rust area will probably be quite small - the rest is stain coming out of the small rust spot. Be gentle or you will pull the paint off then it will look scabby.

Thanks for that info, that is something I can try in my garage this weekend.

Cheers.

Apparently, although the rust area looks small on the outside, it is like an iceberg. What is behind it may be massive.

Just a word of caution, not sure this is always the case though. Had mine done twice now.

Good luck, let us know how you get to on please.

a lot of the time, the rust on the scoobs arches is from the inside out, and the only real way to get rid of it, is to cut out the rot, and replace with new metal. just sanding back, treating and paint will only buy you some time. it will come back
