Has anyone purchased Silver online, looking to buy a small amount as a christening present?

If so who'd you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

This might help:

(verified reviews are usually a good way to find a good supplier)

I buy physical Silver and Gold a lot, have done for over 15 years.

coininvestdirect.com (based in Germany and they can do some clever stuff with Tax on Silver if you buy in bulk)
bullionbypost
postalbullion
atkinsons

All good. Are you buying bullion or coins as an investment or just a little keep sake?

Silver is expensive because you have to pay 20% VAT on it. Bullion is cheaper in the form of minted or poured/cast bars whereas coins are more expensive due to the manufacture of them.

Anything under 10oz/250grammes is really daft as its so expensive due to the mark up. If you're just after some silver jewellery then I cant help with that! Sorry

Go to kitco.com to get the current price of Spot Silver so that gives you an idea of what you are getting for your money http://www.kitco.com/market/bp_charts.html

If it's for a christening gift, why not buy an item rather than just a block of silver?

Something like a cup, bracelet, necklace, napkin ring, will, I'd have thought, mean a lot more to the recipient in 20 years time, than a coin or bar of silver.

I gave this idea to a friend recently and they took my advice and bought a christening cup that was 100 years old in 2014. Nice idea I thought, especially if you can find one without engraving, and have it engraved yourself.

30 second google just bought this one up. 100 year old piece of quality silver craftsmanship, and the same price as 4 x 1oz silver coins!
