Just buried our house rabbit, Micky.

We had to have him pts last night as his quality of life had dropped to not much.

He was nine, which is a really good age for a rabbit.

We got him from a rescue with his mate Penny, who quickly became Moopie, as she the markings of a Friesian cow, black and white. They got rescued because Moopie gave us each a lick (just one) when we went to the rescue to give a pair of rabbits a home.

Micky was just the most chilled rabbit ever. Nothing worried him, even a fox on the other side of the glass (they took over the conservatory) barely raised a glance. Moodie died one day while we were at work, she was fine at half-six in the morning, was dead as I got back at half five.

We got another mate for him, Rosie (I got the name wrong on my Facebook post, I'm sorry), who was also a big rabbit, but it took a couple of weeks to bond them, I think it may have been too soon after Moopie died.

They became firm lick buddies, he would follow her around, but she loved Elton John, and would watch him on the telly all day if we'd let her.

She died a year ago last summer, and as Micky was getting on a bit, we didn't feel he was up to all the rigmarole of bonding again, so he came in to live in the back bedroom. We thought that as he was pushing seven, we'd not have him much longer. Stubborn little chap that he was, he made the most of his time alone, and as he got older and less mobile, we ended up having to wash him as he kept sitting in his pooh. This meant he got quite used to showers and towelling, and I used to get loads of licks as I held him.

He got to be less and less able to move about, but his appetite never really slowed, until last week. He was struggling to eat his favourite biscuits and sultanas, and his greens were being left. He lost his footing on Sunday, so we decided to take him to the vet, fearing the worst, which the vet confirmed.

He passed away on the table with me rubbing him gently.

Goodbye, my Boy.

Aww, sounds like he had a great life smile. So sorry you've had to say goodbye to him, sadly his age just caught up with him frown. I'm glad he went peacefully.

Thanks for the posts,

Yes he had a totally carefree life. I remember him laying alongside the glass of the conservatory when one of the local foxes tried to sniff him through the glass! He never even budged.

He used to follow Moopie and later Rosie round the house, more to see what they were up to than curiosity for himself, because after Rosie died, he never left the conservatory unless we took him out of it.

He loved his two-storey hutch, as Slippy did before him, and the neighbours rabbit Skip did after we moved Micky inside.

Going to have a few years rabbit free, then may go back to them later. I need time to get my Karma back, I hate losing them.
