I had a new alloy radiator fitted and it looks like the old one was left in place and the new one bolted behind it:

The black one being the old one and the new shiny one peaking out from behind it. Is that right? The AC rad is the small one off to the other side isn't it?

If you stood in front of the car, ac rad would be first and in centre, coolant rad behind it again in center then off to the right would be oil cooler.

Ac rad is off a range rover I think as I managed to get on here in aus off the shelf!

Thanks, had never noticed before, I'd thought that would be quite poor for cooling.

That's why coolant temps normally go slightly up, when you use A/C in summer.... smile

Ac condenser temperatures are much lower than coolant temperatures, and the amount of energy being transferred is much lower. Turbocharged cars have the intercooler in front of the condenser for the same reason again.

That might be correct, but I would think, that you block the air stream partly to the rad or at least cause turbulence and/or slower air flow speeds. It would think, that the rad would have a better performance without A/C condenser in front of it.
Plus your air leaving the A/C condesner has definately a higher temp than ambient.
Not a fluid mechanics guy though, so happy if someone would correct my if I'm wrong. smile

Sure the radiator would work better without the condenser in front. But the effect it has is minimal. It won't constitute much of a resistance.
