Hi - after writing after my saab this week i'm looking at early TT's up to about £2500k. At this price range I'm expecting over 100k miles but as long as it has a decent service history and condition is good i'll be happy

Never owned an audi before, did have a 2000 1.8T passat few years back, so looking for help/advice/tips on what to look for when buying

Thanks in advance

Your right, go for good condition with history etc. Cambelt, etc.
pixel displays can give bother, so can thermostats, gear linkage, breather pipes and coils.
The 225 model is the one to go for.
(2 exhausts) and quattro.
My mate just bought a 02 plate with 158k on clock. drives well but tatty wheels, scuffs, cracked rear lights mean money needs spending on top of the 2250 he paid.
I sold my 51 plate for asking price of 4250. It goes this weekend. only 86k miles, unmarked with new brakes, powder coated wheelscand Vredstien tyres.

Suspension issues should be on your list of things to check. Mine went through a couple of arbs and cracked both rear springs by 70k miles/7 years when I sold it.

Make sure there is solid evidence of regular oil changes as they can suffer with sludge which is very difficult to remove and can cause really expensive oil pressure problems.

Radios stop working after 100,000 on/off cycles which is very annoying as it can't be predicted.

You might have to do a little hunting but there are dozens of detailed threads on buying MK1 TTs on this very forum.

As already pointed out also the TT-forum is excellent and hosts a wealth of knowledge on these cars.

Availability of secondhand parts is very good these days too.
