My Audi Q3 Stronic Quattro was MOT tested at an Audi main dealer this week. When I got the car back I ran a VCDS scan and was surprised to see that it had logged a fault with the Haldex / 4motion component.

This fault was not present before the MOT test, the timing of the fault ties in very well with the time at which I think the car was being tested.

I'm wondering whether this fault was generated during the brake testing part of the MOT test, does anyone have experience/knowledge of this happening?

I have cleared the fault code and used the car, the fault code has not returned yet.

I thought quattro doesnt go on the brake tester? My mate done my MOT and he had this heavy gadget in the footwell to test the brakes. Just take it for a drive slam the brakes and record reading.

Thanks Palmers, maybe I need to ask my Audi dealer about this.

Yup - not a good idea if the rolling road brake testing machine only spins a single pair of wheels for the brake test, but the car is AWD....

Quick bit of Googling of that fault code (strewn with false positives and scare stories though such an exercise is) does not look positive...stories ranging from replacing the pre-charge pump to replacing the whole rear axle setup... frown

I used to own a quattro turbo and at MOT times it always went on the brake testing rollers, it has a diff (Torsen) between front and rear to allow for the rollers. These brake testing rollers really don't run very fast so the diff would compensate for the different in wheel speeds from front to rear axles.

Thanks for your contributions.

I've been in contact with the Audi dealer who MOT tested my car and they've confirmed that sometimes the MOT brake test does cause that fault code on a quattro model.
