Noticed the other day that my phone has a slight bend at the volume rocker. I was under the impression that the issues were limited to the much larger iPhone 6.

As usual, Apple customer service and warranty is top notch and have promised to replace it once I've backed everything up. But it's no excuse for a top tier premium phone to bend in your pocket during normal use.

Anyone else got the same issues?

It's difficult to spot at first, but if you hold the edge of the phone on a flat surface at an angle then it should be completely flush.

My 5s has done exactly the same and I believe it's not uncommon with Apple products. My son's iPad mini is frankly banana-shaped and I'm absolutely staggered that the screen hasn't cracked, but it's been like that for the last year so I guess it's stronger than it looks!

Not had the problem yet but I don't keep it in my trouser pocket. Neither with my previous phones. Even with the brick Nokias if you sat on the phone long enough it would distort over time. The newer slimmer aluminium chassis are going to be alot more prone to bending.

I've got a bent PowerBook G4, but I doubt that helps.

Just noticed my 6 has a slight bend in it, as did my 5 before it.

Two points:
1. How would you stop something so thin from bending?
2. Does it really matter? Does it seriously affect the form of the phone or its function in the slightest?

Last night my son noticed his 1 month old 6 was bent
I took him to our local Apple store to be told it isn't covered and if we pay £230 he can have another phone. This isn't the first time these idiots have done this. Our IMac power supply blew and they wouldn't cover, it was 2 weeks out of warranty , and blamed it on a non existent lightning storm .
Right now Im censored fuming with these idiots.
Listening to the "genius" clown spouting a load of crap about why they can't cover it was doing nothing to convince me to give them any more of my money for anything they make.

I have/have had many Apple products over the years and have never had a bending problem.

I have a 5S that lives in my front jeans pocket nearly all day and its fine.

However, i would never put it in my back pocket and then sit down!

My iPhone 6 Plus is 3 months old and is perfect condition. I'm surprised people don't take more care of such an expensive gadget. I'm not saying the device couldn't be sturdier but come on, at least try to look after it if all you'll do is moan at a slight bit of self inflicted damage.

Well,

  1. The competition does it. On a pressure bench, the 6+ needs about half the pressure the Note 3/4 needs... Making it a mm thicker could prevent that, while upping battery life (and production cost unfortunately).
  2. Agreed, it can rock a bit but really not a big problem I'd say, unless it allows dust or fluids to go in easier...

I don't have the 6, but for balance, my Xperia Z3 has a slight bend in it by the volume rocker also.

Yes, within one week mine was bent, the screen was covered in scratches and there was a dent on one corner where it landed on a hard surface and split the phone open.

Also the front facing camera isn't central in the aperture (it's offset to the left).

I don't really think you've been looking after yours to well, scratches in the first week, dents from dropping and a split. Sounds like your fault not the phones. I've had mine since release, not dints or scratches and I work outside all day and use my phone a lot. Also rattles about in bouncy machines all day without a problem. Just takes common sense to look after it a bit, esp after spending ~£600 on it. I can see how they bend easy but scratches and dents are pure user error, end of. And no wonder your camera is offset if you've dropped it on a hard surface with enough force to crack the body!!

Thanks for your concern, but I look after my phone however I choose.

No bends that I can see and it's in my pocket almost 24/7.

Glad someone has made a post..... Today My Iphone 6 has now bent in the middle, I had it in my jacket pocket with my car keys on the back of a chair, Sat down and i felt the phone under my ass cheek. Its now un-useable The screen is all knackered, can't unlock etc. All i can see is the time and date. I've only had this phone for a short while since release... my old 4S was bullet proof. Theres no scratches, nothing... Just this bend! Whats the chance of this being replaced under warranty?

Cheers

It's not in the known weak spot where the volume key is? If it isn't, it could be a problem. Do you have insurance?

Take it into an Apple Store and chance your arm. If they decline, try another Apple store. Don't tell them you sat on it.

Which is of course your choice, but if you treat it like st don't grizzle when you break it.

It's on the Volume key side, but 2 Inches further down, I have house insurance, but not sure what my excess is, need to dig the paperwork out. I'll just say it was in my jeans pocket all day, took it out and it was bent.

edited to add, I've kept it in a flexible case from day 1, So theres no dings, scratches etc.
