I'm currently running a M135i and the missus has a CRV on lease. That's due back now and I'm looking for a big ish car to replace it. I'm looking at spending about £7k.

I'm quite fancying a 7 series E65, they seem great value. Call me a weirdo, but I actually prefer the Pre-Facelift and they're even better value. I hated the look of them at the time, but the post-facelift just looks like a rushed apology of a design. Almost stuck on. The Bangle look is what it is. I'm embracing it!

OK, I recently came out of a 2003 CL55K (500BHP) . Has anyone tried both that and the 750i? Is it worth it or should I stick to the 730d? If it doesn't feel pokier than a CL55 I think I'll just get the 730D.

Thanks for your answers and thoughts in advance.

Did I get this right? You want to know if a 367 bhp 750i is faster than a 500 bhp CL55, and if no, you will go for a 730d?

A CL55 is faster, congratulations on the 730d smile

crazy as it sounds the CL didn't feel that fast to me (unless you totally gunned it, then it was an animal). I thought the Beemer might feel more nippy. If nippy can be used on a big exec car...

I know the BHP figure differences....

The 730d goes fairly well for what it is but couldn't be decribed as nippy. If you wan't pre facelift you're looking at the 745i, the 750i is post facelift (roughly 55 reg onwards). Also, pre facelift 730d's are the earlier 218bhp engines rather than the later 228 version.

Neither will compare with the Merc for performance and feel very relaxed in thier power delivery as is the nature of a luxury car wieghing in at over 2 tonnes.

That said, I'll have the 7 over the Merc any day.

Thanks for that. I might go 745i then. Cheaper to repair and seem better specced. If the 30d is the old engine I guess it won't be as refined. The 745i is for pennies too!

There's little difference in the refinement of the diesel cars but you''re right about 745i's being had for peanuts. Google for common faults with these cars but primarily look for a well looked after car with fsh and enjoy!
