I have a developing plan to take my soon to be acquired GT3 to the Continent and to leave it at my house in Southern France. My investigations suggest that insurance becomes much easier for a car based and left in France, with a French as opposed to a UK insurer. Apart from changing the headlights to RHS, do I need to do anything else on the 911 in order to re-register it there. I have done the same with an MX5, without issue, but I am a little more wary of the 911 given the cost of parts etc.

Have a look in the French forum on pistonheads. If it is a soon to be acquired car and you will not register it in the uk first then the process is a little more involved. For my 996tt I just flicked the switch on the lights to lhd, so you don't have change the lamps (if the gt3 ones have that feature). Certificate of conformity and a big cheque for your less than 10 year old powerful petrol monster to the French government.

What year GT3 are you buying? -as it makes a big difference to the debate...

Also, little point in keeping a RHD one in France, and LHD will be cheaper anyway

It is 2010 UK registered Gen 2 GT3 to C16 spec, but interestingly one which is LHD.
