Considering a Fiesta as an option for a cheap shed for the wife to run around in, probably prefer the 1.4 Zetec for a bit more power but should I be looking at the 1.25 and the 1.3 also?

Through my limited knowledge of fiestas through friends, I'd say the 1.25 is very good for what it is, nippy and refined. The 1.3 is an ancient engine design and it's very noisy and tappety .

The 1.25 Yamaha unit is a peach.

1.25 or 1.6 engine is the one to go for. Completely avoid the 1.3, and as far as I remember all the 1.4 does is use more fuel.

Thanks, thought that about the 1.3 it's on the list along with a Pug 206 and VW Polo's. Prefer a Peugeot Myself tbh as I used to work for them so know a bit more but at the money I'm looking to spend can't be to fussy!

Might find the 1.6 ZS cheaper, less desirable as you can afford better cars at 18/19 now, and no good for learners.

Other than rust, especially around the rear arches, they're fairly bullet proof, easy to work on and parts are cheap.

poorly maintained 1.25/1.4/1.6 etc yamaha zetecs (which for shed money is likely) can get hungry for piston rings and valve stem seals so burn a stload of oil.

The 1.3 endura engines are slow and noisy but as long as there is oil and water in them they generally keep going.

It's quite hard to kill a Yamaha engine, unless they're run on no oil, like most engines.
