Does anybody have a Halifax current account?
They currently have an offer on where if you switch current accounts to them they give you £125.

I'm with Natwest. They don't offer me anything much better than anybody else so this offer seems appealing.

Basically looking to see if anyone can tell me that Halifax aren't useless before leaving Natwest for them.

I reckon I've been with the Halifax for over 30 years and never had a problem....

First Direct offer the same but £100 rather than £125, but offer excellent service. No foreign call centres, no automated telephones. Just call and someone helpful picks up. Well worth the £25 difference. Plus if you don't like them and leave within 12 months they give you another £100.

Halifax are fine.

Unless I was unhappy with my current bank I certainly wouldn't go through the hassle of changing for £100 or so.

First Direct were offering the same deal a month or so ago so I switched to them.

I don't use the overdraft of my bank and Halifax and Natwest branches are on the same road where I live.
Seems like an easy £125.

I've just changed from natwest to Halifax on the £125 thing. Those who say it's too much hassle couldn't be more wrong. I filled in one form which took about 10 minutes and they did the rest.

Funny how earning a rate of £10 a MINUTE is too much hassle! Oh well.

....depends how many payments in and out of the account you have to give new instructions for. Some of them will move automatically but some of them won't. So the situation will vary from person to person.

1. Open another current account you dont need/want.
2. Put those details into the Halifax switch boxes.
3. Wait for the 'switch' to take place.
4. Profit.

Rinse and repeat with all the other incentives that are available.

I just did it with First Direct and it's pretty straightfoward. The only thing that definitely won't move is continuous authority card payments, standing orders should do though. Interestingly my boss pays me by doing a regular bank transfer, and when he logged in to change my details as a payee they were already changed.

You need to switch at least 2 direct debits or standing orders, so you'd also need to set up a payment INTO the 'bogus' account of, say, £20, plus two separate £10 payments back out again within the month.

5. Read the T&Cs and realise you have to stay with the bank for a period of time and they'll only pay out one.

I think he means other banks.

There's £125 from Halifax, £125 from Co-op, £125 from First Direct, £125 from M&S. Just don't do them all at once or else your credit file will take a hammering.

Not for Halifax you dont. You have to use their switch service and close the other account down but there is no requirement to have anything active: http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/

To get the £5 reward you need to have 2x DD going out per month but there are a couple of savings accounts that let you do that.

Halifax do only pay out once but there is no requirement to stay with them after that.
