I am tired, and emotionally exhausted, so please excuse the copy and past from my Facebook page. Just removed a few names.

Can anyone offer advice on this situation please.

Well, looks like we are going to have massive problems with our soon to be ex landlord.

We have recently found a new house, and housing benefits have agreed to pay rent on our old property, and new property, for 4 weeks, to allow us to transition slowly, due to my daughters special needs, and my wife needing adaptions, due to her disabilities.

We handed our 4 weeks notice in today, and our landlord has kicked off.

He still wants his 4 weeks money, but says he is coming on monday, with 2 others, to remove us immediately, and change the locks.

We have pointed out that this is illegal, and if he does so, he will be reported to the police, and any payment to him, from the housing people will stop immediately.

The council, have also tried to tell them they are acting illegally.

So on Monday it looks like me, verses his goons, in a war of words.

We really wanted this to be out home for a long time, but things turned sour, when he refused to do repairs.

And he has snapped, now we have found a new home.

Wish me luck, I intend to go down fighting, if that is what it takes.
My wife, and the kids, will be moved to a safe place.

And from some of the horror stories I have found out about this guy, a bit of muscle may be required. Rather than legal and clever words.

Ever feel like you are living in a soap opera?

Sorry to hear of your situation. I've no advice other than I would be calling the police now, advising them of these threats and asking them to attend on Monday to avoid a breach of the peace.

You've handed in your notice of 4 weeks and you are falling out with the landlord as he wants to be paid for the next 4 weeks?

Isn't that what should happen and is happening? Is there a break down in communication somewhere?

Landlord wants paying for next 4 weeks, but wants his house back immediately.

I'm a Landlord and, legally I believe, he cannot simply evict you onto the streets.

Ring the Police and maybe the Council.

Hopefully the Police will warn him off if he gets threatening.

Why does he want you out on Monday or is it to do the works before he finds someone else?

I fully read the post, smart arse.

You see the bit where he say he still "wants" his next 4 weeks rent, not has got his money? I'd expect the rent would already be paid as it is paid one month in advance.

There is no reason for the landlord to kick off if he is getting his money. I'm sure most landlords are well rehearsed with people coming and going. It's not an unusual situation, but their behaviour is.

The only reason a landlord would get in a panic is they felt they weren't getting their money.

If he knows he is getting his money, there is no justification in his behaviour.

It was just a simple question that didn't merit the snarky reply.

I didn't know benefits were paid in arrears.

It would seem his fear is he isn't getting his money and scared you guys will leave him short. He shouldn't be bullying you though.

Hopefully you can explain all is well to him.

Does the money go directly to the landlord from the council? Or does it go to you, then the landlord?

I'm trying to understand his logic for kicking off.

He's mental to even consider it, it's a criminal offence.

Report it to the council tomorrow, log it with the police and, personally, I would lock the doors and call 999 if he actually does come on Monday.

Many moons ago mine went straight from the council to the landlord due to too many people getting the money first and spunking it up the wall. Good luck OP, best not to try the muscle approach, no matter how appealing it may seem at the time

Yes, money goes direct to him.

We can't understand him kicking off either.

You've been threatened with, and been put in fear of, violence. You have been assaulted and the landlord has already committed a criminal offence.

Why do you think the landlord will wait until Monday? You have a reasonable suspicion he and his goons could come round anytime. Call 999 and report it. You are a victim of serious crime, tell the police and do not stop telling them until they take it seriously.

There isn't an immediate threat of violence. 101 will be far more useful as they'll have time to take details/connect you to the right people. Good luck op.

Called 101, they have logged it, and said it will be prioritized if we 999 them on Monday, due to vulnerable disabled people in the house.

My priority this weekend, is move as much stuff as possible, in our car.

We will try to have the place empty by the end of tomorrow, don't think it's possible, but I'll try anyway.

take your time, don't worry about the landlord, he can come and get shirty, call 999, have him put straight.

its YOUR house, not his.

Im a landlord and have had people move out early and keep paying till the end, perfect really, gives me a nice empty flat to show for viewings.
