Just bought a van this morning.

Mods so far that i know about :-

2.8 VR6 engine
Induction kit
Performance exhaust
Flipped rear axle
Coilover suspension
VR6 leather seats
VW Polo interior
White dials dash
Ply lined rear interior
BBS style 15 inch alloys
Carpeted cabin replacing vinyl flooring
Sprayed VW Tornado Red
SEAT Ibiza front end

First impressions - it goes like stink. Its as mad as a barrel full of otters. Very noisy, really sounds on song when its revving out.

All seems "tight" enough and the upgrade was done 5+ years ago.

Downsides :-

It really needs resprayed. The previous owner had it sign written and removed it and the paint has been damaged underneath by the glue. Also paint has lifted in places. I've it booked in to get the yellow stripes removed and for a respray in three weeks time (soonest he could do it)

Gear linkage is a bit sloppy. Getting that checked out.

Those wheels. Probably "in" on the "dub scene", but going to change them to a set of G60 15 inch steel wheels. Apparently you can still order these brand new from VW as they now sell them as winter wheels. Will also have to fit appropriate tyres.

Aiming for the "sleeper" look with it. More pics as the work happens!

My friend had one of these with a supercharged VR6 fitted and it went like an absolute b@stard!! Looked tidy enough too, had a MK3? Ibiza Cupra front end conversion done on it too.

Cheers,

What / why is a flipped rear axle?

Its when the axle is fitted on top of the leaf springs instead of below, where it should be. Lowers the rear end a fair bit when done!

Was having a look on the vw caddy forum last night and came across the guy who owned it originally.

He had it in matt black with the camo interior. Funny the headcloth in still in that cloth and i was wondering how it got like that!

Well thats the yellow stripes off and the van away for its respray.

VW have stopped selling the G60 rim as of a couple of years ago, so couldnt order them new.

Couldnt find G60 rims anywhere on the mainland that someone was prepared to post over to NI, and none anywhere in ireland.

Found a set on Ebay Germany with a Buy it Now price of £95 and international postage at £58. Turned up 2 days later! They need refurbed but still probably cheaper than they would have cost me new.

Also got centre caps. Couldnt find the "proper" ones, so in the meantime have ordered up these off ebay (discontinued stock) new that i'm well pleased with

Which all done and dusted should give me a look like this

Have clear side repeaters on order too.

Will post up pics of the resprayed van next weekend.

G60s probably wont go on until mid April.

Looks good, will look ace with the steelies on after a refurb!
Any thoughts on sticking an ibiza front end on it? I think they look much nicer than the caddy front end.

I bought a new G60 rim about five months ago! Factory were showing 600+ as I asked my friend who works for VW TPS to check on stock levels for me. I think it was £29 plus VAT.

Discontinued now. frown

One dealer on the mainland was showing 50+ in stock but that was it.

Maybe your mate got you a trade price? They were coming up at £57 or thereabouts inc VAT which is in line with what people on other forums have paid.

Does seem i missed the boat on new ones by a short time though frown

Good to hear Weller are still around - i remember they were the "in" 10 inch mini wheel to have when we had old minis 30 years ago smile

Theres a certain "look" i'm going for with the genuine g60 steel wheel, and the genuine VW wheel centre, so it was going to be all or nothing with getting those. Pleased with the set of used ones i got from Germany.
