Hi, Neil..I have someone that needs help with a intermediate steering shaft support, could you post back with a little bit of information, also perhaps the pretty bulkhead thingy (he is going to need to straighten the column to miss the V8 exhaust he is fitting), I will direct him to the thread.

The intermediate shaft support bearing is a spherical housing and cir-clip retained sperical bearing welded directly to the chassis. The drop in spherical bearing was as close as I could get but needed a phosphor bronze top hat insert turning up to take up play.
The bulkhead bearing is a housing from e-bay. Size was v slightly too small for the column but we scraped it in the lathe until a fit was obtained. in reality this doesn't do too much since the column is bracketed behind the dash with some steel tubes, exhaust clamp and nylon bush which solidly mounts the column in position. This is an improvement over the bent metal, woodscrews and jubilee clip which is OE. the bulkhead bearing allowed adjustment and holding of the column in various positions to set best position. once locked in place it does nowt. (looks nice though)
I used a car builder solutions steering shaft and 9/16 spline group 4 U/J for the lower shaft
The upper shaft is a shortened std Vixen S1 affair which I sleeved and pinned prior to welding
I could have used a single shaft but wanted to engineer out the bump steer which the vixen is noted for. I also like an intermediate shaft since it is more likely that the column will pull away from you in a heavy smash rather than impale you like a spear
The racer is slightly different again but allows for a greater angle between shafts for a wilder manifold.
The early vixens without TR6 boxes are much easier to move the column about. The TR6 pedal box cars need a bit of careful cutting to get the column in a good place Its also harder to incorporate the bulkhead bearing and housing.
