Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (5 or 6 point) 3 inch shoulder and waist harness for an mr2?

Unless anyone knows of a second hand (in date) harness for sale?

Thanks

Thanks for that, they look good.

Also just found these which seem a reasonable price:

I know motorsport is expensive and without wishing to sound in anyway condescending but there are areas to scrimp and areas to spend and helmets and harnesses aren't imho an area to scrimp on.

Not condescending at all smile I guess my response is with an FIA stamp on it should a cheap(er) harness provide any less safety than an expensive one?

Drop me a PM if you still want belts.

I have just bought some brand new in date 3 inch TRS belts for £140, inc vat but plus p&p. I can check whether they are still available at that price.

Ah yes, the old 'how much is your head worth?' argument. Which is, of course, to say, spend a shed load to appease other people out there who aren't forking out etc etc.
It's all a load of bks really. If it has the right certification it will pass scrutineering, simples!
I bought a schroth clubman 6pt harness and a Black cat HANS helmet, both perfectly adequate, both comfortable and I felt totally protected and secure. They cost around £150 each so are budget parts really but they got me on the grid.
Incidentally, I noticed that the majority of F1 drivers wear uncomplicated gloves, on closer inspection they look almost budget compared to what is advertised in Tweeks and JJC etc. If they're good enough for F1 etc...

I keep saying to people, it's not a fashion parade, it's there to protect. If you want to look like you've got all the gear then spend your own money but when you are in a blazing inferno or rolling like a tumble drier it won't make the slightest difference as it's all made of the same stuff, to the same safety standard.

Have a look at Securon belts for what you are wanting. They make for many other "branded suppliers" but also make their own available at very good prices.

They are fully compliant for racing as well as road use. Come in a variety of colours and widths of 2inch and 3 inch

Are cheaper belts less fray resistant than more expensive belts? Will cheap in-date belts still pass scrutineering before they go out of date or are they become unstitched and frayed? Do cheaper belts weigh more than more expensive belts? Is it true of belts that you get what you pay for? F1 drivers probably don't need gloves that will provide value for money as they can have a new set at someone else's expense every time they sit in the car.

Mr oil change, thanks for opening the old chestnut of how much you'd head is worth.

In my reply I was actually alluding to the OP wanting to buy some second hand used belts rather than buying budget items. Although personally I would always buy the best ppe I could afford provided it fitted well and was comfortable. For example a boggo spec race suit is fine but a more expensive one that has an elasticated lower back is just so much more comfortable. Each to their own though I guess.

Fair enough, I am of the opinion that you can pick up perfectly good enough ppe new, just might not have that special fashion label on it. One could say that my three year old race suit, helmet and harness is second hand but is still in good condition. If it's in date, you inspect it and are happy then there's no reason why it won't be perfectly adequate.
I just think people sometimes confuse cost with effectiveness

There is nothing wrong with prima motorsport belts, ISTR they make the belts for Nicky Grist.

If these are for competition, don't neglect to consider that HANS will be mandatory in many circuit racing series from 2016 and the Schroth system at least requires 2" shoulder straps.

Absolutely not true, I'm afraid. There is no need for 2 inch belts with any HANS device. And it was the maufacturers (I think Shroth) who to,d us that about 3 years ago.

3 inch straps with or without HANS but 2 inch straps must have HANS.

the fixing point locations for the shoulder straps are different for 2" and 3" belts for HANS use. Specifically the width apart.

Just a thought about this. I have just changed from a cheap TRS harness to a more expensive Scroth one (not sure there is much out there more expensive than that in the club racing price range) and I don't think it's about fashion or showing off. It is a much easier harness to use, fits really well and does up nice and tight. It is undoubtedly the safer for it even though it has the same safety standard. So for me, extra money on quality is very worthwhile.

Funny, I have a Schroth harness too but it was the least expensive of the 6 point ones I could see, the Clubman. I paid about £150 and they went far in excess of that.

I knew I liked the buckle over the other manufacturers ones, which are often just a little metal lever, as I have used them in helicopters before and they just seemed to be the best.

OP, have a look at Plays Kool Motorsport, they do some cheaper 6 points that have been getting good reviews with Seven owners.
