Wondering if anyone here can offer any insight into a good headset to purchase.

Many seem to suggest buying the £70-80 sony wireless stereo headset, though I'm not sue how well informed people are when they suggest it. The other option is buying astro A40's at £200, everyone seems to praise these. While relatively new the Turtle beach 800 at £240 gets very positive reviews. There's also many other companies that I know nothing of, as a result I just don't know where to start in deciding on what to buy.

My main concern is just getting something that sounds excellent and has a decent mic, wireless is not important to me. digital surround sound or dolby 7.1 would be nice. Being able to use it as a regular set of good headphoens by plugging it into my TV or laptop to listen to music/watch TV is quite important too. I don't want to splash out on something just to use for gaming.

I don't mind buying myself a seperate set of headphones, and a mic to plug into my controller if it means I will get something better for less. (if possible)

any help would be appriciated.

I got some Turtle Beach PX4s in the January sales, very happy with them.

Agree on the px4s.

Initially bought cheap Tritton kamas - very good. Returned them due to a fault, but it turned out the ps4 controller was faulty. Was then looking at A40/50s, but settled on the px4s. My only complaint is that the sender unit is a bit messy due to wires.

The px4s aren't 4 times better than the Trittons, as I dare say the Astros aren't 3 times better than the px4s.

Serious gamer? Spend as much as you want.
More casual? £100 seemed about right to me.

I got Turtle Beach PX22 headphones / mic and have been happy with them. Decent sound quality albeit not surround sound and I like the inline volume controls to change game, chat and your voice levels. I'm only a casual gamer but at about £60 IIRC bit of a bargain too and can be used on systems other than PS4

PX4's here. Dolby 5.1, wireless, very comfortable. I would say well worth the money.

The official Sony wireless one is very good, the surround sound enhances games massively. Also works with the PS3 and you can just use a phono lead if you want to connect it to another non PS device.

I'm kind of casual/serious. but I want something that functions well as a headset and also a pair of headphones for listening to music + movies. I don't want to felt like I'm not getting the best possible solution.

I'd like something with Dolby. I want to treat myself.

I hear they're alright. But many reviewers seem to say that the digital surround sound is terrible and you're better off using stereo. My micro hifi has a good digital surround sound so I can use that if I need to. I basically want somthing better than that.. but on my head.

Added to the list. So far I'm thinking...

Astro A40/A50 - Everyone highly rates it. However I don't know how the two compare. I don't need wireless.. but would like to know if the A50's can be used wired (incase you run out of battery).

Turtle beach elites 800 - new and highly rated. again wireless. Some say its better then astros and has more features.

Sennheiser g4me zero - Unfortunately only a stereo headset. BUT it has a wider frequency then the others. So perhaps might be more of a purists persons choice. My only concern is how much better are these to the other ones that are in dolby.
