I'm slowly re-doing my bathroom after the shower shattered and I've come to do the ceiling light above the shower.

Taking out the old one it is a huge mess where the plasterboard looks as though it was cut badly. Can I use some sort of tape to make the surround stronger? I doubt any new light would be stable. I'm at a bit of a loss at this stuff.

Thanks for any help and a picture below.

Measure the diameter of the hole the cut 2 strips of wood up to 12mm thick, into strips 6mm smaller in width than the diameter of the hole and twice the diameter of the hole in length. Put a screw through the centre of each piece of wood and tie a short length of string to the head of each screw.
Put a decent dab of no more nails or similar gripfix adhesive on the pieces of wood and then push them through the hole and position them either side of your flex using the screw heads as handlesTie the ends of the strings together then hang a small weight on until the adhesive has set, then remove the screws

whats the diameter of the hole? Easyfix is to replace the light fitting with one a bit bigger.

something like this: http://www.ledz.uk.com/product/ledz-simple-10-watt...

or try our resident led man, good excuse to make the upgrade to LED.

I had a larger hole after removing something that went through a ceiling. What I did was to get an offcut of plasterboard I had hanging around, fixed two batons to it, dropped it in from the loft, screwed the batons to the ceiling inside the roof, then re-plastered the ceiling (which was being done anyway).

With that hole you could probably just do it with a single baton.

I had similar size holes to fill in my ceilings after I had to fit additional smoke detectors. I got a length of 2x1 and cut in into 5/6" bits, I fed one piece through the hole and lay it flat onto the plasterboard, screwed up through the ceiling and into the 2x1 then screwed a piece of plaster board to the 2x1, filled with easy fill, sanded and they are completely invisible.

I'm not a sparky, but doesn't that need a Zone C lamp in the shower?

dunno what zone c is. IP44 is sufficient for a ceiling in a bathroom.

Thank you for the advice. I used a mixture of wood and filler in the end as the hole was about 6mm too big on either side.
