Just a little help required diagnosing a fault with my R56 clubman S (2007).

On Friday morning (commute to work) the heaters would not throw out much heat.

Saturday morning, I found the coolant low, so topped it up (I did not have time to take it for a run). Not noticed any dripping or wet patches anywhere.

This morning I took a short run (about a mile) to get some petrol. Stopped at petrol pump and fan running continually for a lengthy time. Came straight back home and fan running again.

I suspect the water pump?? Or maybe thermostat? Any thing mentioned give a clue to one or the other?

How much should I budget to get it fixed in a local indie?? Anything else it could be??

Many thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

I had these exact symptoms last year. Fan running all the time and it even lit up the overheat light in the rev counter after about a mile. That was the temp sensor on the top right. Cost me £12 but that was mates rates.

We also had a coolant leak and no heater working in October. Turned out to be the thermostat housing that was leaking. This included changing the sensor as mentioned above so if your t/stat housing is leaking too then 2 birds with one stone possibly. I think the part cost £40 and my mate charged me £40 to fit it for me.

Or it could be something else entirely...

Hope that helps slightly.

Thanks smile

Solved in the short term, but need to keep an eye out for leaks, if they arise..... If it stop raining, it might help!
