here's a lot of the public who contact the police about speed enforcement, so it would probably make them happy.
Regular occurrence round here on a 20 by mums on school walk ,with kids playing chicken & large volumes of parked vehicles making anything more than 10 -15ph almost impossible . of course it's also the time when there's a large volume of school run vehicles on the road. But we don't see the speed checks at that time- it's usually mid morning when the roads are less congested. makes sense ,as there's more chance of their( usually ,PCSO'S) time being more profitable. Last speed check had big headlines about a speed safety check . then in a lot smaller print the actual result. Something like over 400 vehicles in a time like 1-2 hrs. Only ONE vehicle was reported for exceeding the 20 limit.

perhaps we should start a fund to pay for the first genuine copy of one of these illusive NIPs for speeds below the ACPO prosecution guidelines

I got done for 34 in a 30. I wasn't bitter.

Slightly peeved that I failed to slow up in time as I really didn't spot the van. Amused that I got caught in a massive transit pulling a huge trailer that barely breaks the speed limit when you want it to when I've been zooming about for years in nippy cars and never had any points, fines or stops.

Didn't bother me though as I was speeding, knew the limit and got caught. st happens and the OP sounds like a right bitter miserable sod who's blaming everyone but his other half who got caught. smile

What can the officer say in mitigation for the driver - they were either speeding or not. Surely the only discretion is not to report them?
Not criticising or picking just wondering why the options been taken away.
I'll see what my lot do tomorrow and report back.
Well, no. There's report, SAC, FPN...
The TOR are also used for all the other traffic offences too. The recommendations come in to play when the driver is perhaps naive or ignorant or on the other hand, has a complete disregard for the law. Officer can put their observations and recommendations, and the ticket office will take them into account.

Got any proof? Even the primary motoring solicitor on here has likened a prosecution for 34mph in a 30 to Bigfoot in terms of it being real.

No, it was about a year ago. But quite genuinely my speed was recorded as 34mph and I did my course in Weston-Super-Mare on the seafront with a load of other bemused people who all took it in good spirits. But quite honestly it was 34 and if I could find anything that proved it I would happily post it.

Gone full circle then (theres a surprise). We used to use speed offence cards to report speeders on, and process books for all other traffic matters. The traffic offence report sems to be a simplified process book. They would then be submitted for a prosecution decision to be made as per the latest policy. The extended fixed penalty scheme was then introduced - FPNs were only used for parking prior to that. Looks lie things are back to square one again.

Yup. Very much going in circles.
Worth noting though that it's now changing again with many forces adopting the mobile data/tablets which are all electronic. Same principle but no paperwork.

Seriously, give it a rest. It was 34mph and I was done for the same sort of thing. TBH it was never about the speed, it was my opinion of where the trap was.

I notice another chap has said something similar regarding the speeds mentioned smile

So prove it. It's not difficult amd you're looking a bit daft being so adamant about the speed whilst we all doubt you. You hold all the cards here. Post the NIP and prove it was 34 and we all look stupid, continue not to and it's you that looks stupid.

Or just admit that perhaps you exaggerated the speed and in fact it was closer to 40, but by saying it was what you believed to be the very minimum you could get "done" for, you would get more sympathy from your audience, and support your belief that the police are baddies out to get you when they should be catching burglars et al.?

"Give it a rest"? It's my first comment on the thread (I'm a slow reader). It's just bizarre that you should decline to show that your PoV is based on any fact, when it would be so easy for you. That's all.

All you are leaving us with is bluster that you just don't need/want Loon's gift, plus a vague suspicion that you're another one of those PHers that just can't help making things up. (shrug) It's your rep.

Quite genuinely I saw several little green men returning to their flying saucer which then took off without visible means of propulsion. Quite honestly, if I had any proof I would happily post it.

Well firstly, it's not my ticket and secondly the other half wants nothing to do with PH, the internet and 'whatever that stupid site is'. If my own documentation turns up i'll post it up, it's worth finding now really...maybe i'll just smile and stick it in the bin safe in the knowledge that a few people on the web will lose their minds.

No minds being lost here. Plenty of credibility going AWOL in your vicinity though.

Was this a sort of ad-hoc thing, not a formal process?

Interesting comments from Roads Minister Robert Goodwill today that the Police should put resources into other things rather than easy to detect speeding.
