Land Rover confirms Evoque Convertible

You read that right! Drop-top announced with first prototype images. Brace yourself

Just when you thought a six-wheeled Defender was the weirdest Land Rover you were going to see today... These are the first prototype images of the Evoque convertible, announced at Geneva and with sales due to commence next year. Hmm.

The images come from a testing schedule conducted in London's Crossrail tunnels. It may look like a daft PR stunt (obviously there's a video too) but the benefit is roof-down testing out of the public eye. Apparently the unfinished tunnels allowed for some off-road exploration too. This will surely go down superbly with your local green-laners...

For now Land Rover has only released these images and confirmation of the project. Expect more details towards the end of this year. Yes, it really is happening.

Video here.

I'd actually laugh out loud if I saw anyone driving that.

Words fail me

Yet another niche product that takes a bunch of target markets and fails to hit all of them

edit: just realised. It's actually squarely aimed at those people who really love open-top buses but would never be seen on a bus. Bingo.

Lost for words, some idiot will buy it no doubt. There's me thinking the X6 was the most vulgar thing out there then this comes along.
Shockingly bad.

Useful for hunting the Grouse. Paint one dark green and I can see estates who charge you money to go out killing things getting them. Far more comfortable than a Defender for new money wannabe Harry and Henriettas.

More likely to be driven by an orange scaffolders wife who outgrew her SLK.

Is this not Land-Rover going back to its roots? Weren't the first Landy's soft tops?

idea I quite like it... it looks good in the camo vinyl too.

But sadly i'll never be able to afford it; so you gladly won't have to worry about me buying one, and driving it around causing other roadusers to laugh at me smile

think it looks awesome, glad to see a manufacturer doing something different, just because its a 4x4 doesn't mean it should be mud plugging!
