Hi all,

I need to replace my letterbox but can't find one that fits the existing aperture of 215mm x 45mm - as most replacements are bigger, how big a job is it to enlarge the opening on the midrail of a UPVC door?

Is the midrail solid plastic or hollow or what? I've done some googling but can't find anything about enlarging the existing slot...

Any help would be much appreciated smile

Having recently fitted a couple I'd guess that a 10"/250mm letterplate would fit ok.
The actual opening width needed in the door is maybe 200mm or so, to clear the screws near each end.
Have a look on ebay as I think some ads did give cutout sizes as well as overall widths smile

Thanks everyone, all of the youtube tutorials (I know!) just say get one the size of your old one which is really helpful hehe

I'm off work this week so managed to trawl the local suppliers and think I may have one that'll fit - so fingers crossed.

The existing one has 4 self tappers either side and seems to be bonded / glued in too, so I haven't managed to get that one out yet either - massive loss of man-points so far but I'm hopeful to get it sorted wink

The clue is in the description - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intumescent but I'd have gladly paid that price for a correctly sized one with no hassles to fit, luckily I found an alternative one in one of the local hardware places smile

I could understand if it was being fitted in a fire door but in a upvc door makes no sense to me.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UPVC-Timber-Composite-Do...

£12-odd delivered to the door.
But not delivered through it obviously, as you have no letterbox...
