All I could think of when I saw the retro styling. Von Koenigsegg is a madman or a genius or both. Billionaires, please throw money at him so he doesn't go rogue...
Bravo.

This looks very interesting, proper 'blue sky thinking' going on.
I wonder a little how the lack of gearbox might effect track speed, seeing as corner entry speed is easiest set by which 'gear' it rates as. Having said that, some of my favourite drives have really been in cars with engine strong enough for a 3rd gear that'll haul from 30-90 between the twisty bits.

Wonderfully bonkers, as was said above to raise the game now you'll need 2000+hp and 300mph+ and acceleration like a Top fuel drag car at least...
I wonder if someone will make a production car that break the national speed limit in 2seconds?
I'll be interested to here more about their drive train, despite the crazy headline figures that's the most novel element from first impressions.

I've always liked Koemigseggs but thought from CCX onwards the fashion for 'not sure if they work' aerodynamic accoutrements went a bit far. This, to me, is stunning. Totally cohesive shape, eschewing current origami silliness that only the Japanese do well anyway. Best thing since the Veyron.
Would like to have one sans electric gubbins and turbos, please. Straight to the top of my Euromillions wishlist.

So this is proving that its better NOT to do a hybrid then is it? Bit of turnaround from comments not so long ago by Christian
During the launch of the one:1 he states his dislike for hybrid cars saying its like mixing "oil and vinegar" and now the next car they release is....... a hybrid!!

Strange company, impressed at the technology but personally not a fan of their cars at all.

It's hardly a hybrid in the traditional mould and they've also announced a track-focussed Agera... Would you rather they not cater for demand and end up in the forgotten supercar manufacturers bin? Honda's chief engine designer famously didn't like diesels, so they designed their own. You can do something well and to your spec without empirically liking the technology or believing it will be here forever. Shifting with current technology and customer requests within short timescales is exaclty what a small company should do, not 'strange' at all IMO.During the launch of the one:1 he states his dislike for hybrid cars saying its like mixing "oil and vinegar" and now the next car they release is....... a hybrid!!

I love this.
I don't know much about hydraulics in practice but I have previously wondered if there was any mileage in some sort of hydraulic power transfer. I didn't consider replacing the whole gearbox like this though. It's a fabulous example of fresh thinking.
I really believed the press when the Veyron was launched, than we'd reached the Concorde moment of automotive engineering... meaning we won't ever see anything as mad as a Veyron again. Now though, I have hope for a 300mph "production" car in my lifetime.

Actually, I did ask! Forward and reverse. That's it!
Wheels are a whole new step forward, according to the man himself. I did a little carbon work in my youth, so I'll find out more soon
Does this mean it could 'technically' do its full top speed in reverse with no gearbox?Wheels are a whole new step forward, according to the man himself. I did a little carbon work in my youth, so I'll find out more soon

Not say K'egg: "Koenigsegg says that they don’t like traditional hybrids, they use something called Koenigsegg Direct Drive which doesn’t make it a hybrid." You really have fallen for the marketing spiel!A hybrid is the use of electric and petrol to propel a motor vehicle. The fact they don't have a gearbox is irrelevant. They still use the petrol engine to charge the batteries by disengaging the driveline via hydraulic method so yes id say it very much IS a hybrid.
And exactly what is a traditional hybrid? There are so many different versions by different manufactures that there is no "traditional" method.

It's not exactly 'new'...it's a torque converter, basically...I don't know much about hydraulics in practice but I have previously wondered if there was any mileage in some sort of hydraulic power transfer.
