Just refurbishing my existing garage with a new insulated roller door. Then going to put in a scissor lift and build up around it with 3x2 treated flooring joists topped with ply flooring with 80mm insulation under.

I'm then looking for some floor covering to finish it all off.

Garage is about 26 sq mtrs so the popular PVC interlocking tiles are around £25 sq. mtr. so will cost about £650, a tad more than I wanted to spend.

I've seen this PVC sheet on the CostCo website and wondered how good it was?

http://www.costco.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/co...

Bit concerned that it does not recommend sticking down.

Anyone used it?

I looked closely at it and ended up going for the tiles. The costco stuff is very thin and I wasn't convinced it would stay in place or cover up imperfections in the underlying floor. I also wanted something to give a bit of heat insulation, which the costco stuff wouldn't have provided.

I ended up buying these: http://www.bigdug.co.uk/mats-flooring-c402/interlo... and am pretty happy with them. They stand up to axle stands fine and whilst a trolley jack will damage them, it's not much effort to stick a piece of ply under the jack.

Have you got the interlocking tiles or the garage floor set?

The interlocking will cost me over £650, the garage floor set only £220 but it's only available in black. One review states that it is not designed to take the weight of a car!

Ah sorry, the "Interlocking Vinyl Floor Tiles".

http://www.bigdug.co.uk/mats-flooring-c402/interlo...

Yes, they're black only from that place but that's what I wanted.

I used rubber flooring for stables and glued it down. It was cheaper than the inter-locking titles.

I used this on my garage floor

http://www.horsematshop.co.uk/195-easy-mat-500mmsq...

It's about half the price of other interlocking tiles and looks fine. Only problem I've had is that the side stand from my bike "sinks" a little as did axle stands. However it does pop back into shape after a day or so. I now just put a bit of ply under the axle stands/jack.

Thanks for the link to the flooring thread. Quite a few solutions but like one contributor said "nothing quite fits the bill"

The horse mat solution still works out at just over £18 per sq mtr. or almost £500 for my floor.

Would still like to hear from anyone who has used the Versaroll from Costco

I've had the costco stuff down in my garage for about 2 months now, It's "OK" but probably no more than that to be honest. Where it has been rolled on the form you end up with Ripples over the width of the sheet, it does subside over a week or so, but they are still visible after 2 months (my garage is heated so I doubt this will get better over time). If you've got a rough garage floor and/or leave crap under the roll then the raised bit will wear away very quickly. Sounds a bit negative but I'm actually pretty happy with the outcome.....for the money.

Putting it over a raised plywood flooring so should be reasonably flat.

Did you have to do any joins? If so did you stick them together on the underside?

Would applying direct heater from a fan heater or similar help to iron out the wrinkles?

How robust do you think it will be.

That looks identical to the stuff I've got to me: http://www.bigdug.co.uk/mats-flooring-c402/interlo...

I've just finished doing a major service over mine and can say conclusively that they stand up fine to engine oil, gearbox oil and petrol being spilled on them. hehe

I've got 3 side by side and laid as per the instructions, ie loose. Not moved a jot since I put them down which is nice.

Extra heat will certainly help get rid of the wrinkles quicker than waiting for summer :-). Just been for another look in the garage and I'd say 3/4of the length is now flat with the last quarter still having visible (but by no means bad) rippling.

How robust? I use my garage a lot for DIY/woodwork/Spannering and so far it's holding up great, if you want to drag anvils over it then it will tear pretty quickly, just dropping normal stuff on it will be fine :-)

Hi Jim, thanks for the advice, at the price, £210 for my 25 sq mtr garage/workshop, sounds like it can't be beaten.

The tiles in the link below are the ultimate solution with no downsides. It's used in warehouses and commercial garages and you can use jacks and engine cranes on it with no problems. However you do pay additional for the benefits.

At £36 sq mtr it ought to be the best.

At circa £1000 to do my garage it's far too expensive!!!

And bumping (again), anyone else tried using that Versaroll stuff from Costco? Was going to ask about that here, but think I might go down the tile route instead...

I spent some time looking at American reviews for Versaroll and they weren't great. So I went for the tiles from Garagepride instead. Much more expensive than Versaroll but fit and forget, they look great and worth every penny.

I did my floor DIY with an industrial levelling compound a few years ago. It's a very smooth finish, but due to me not being able to lay it quickly enough, it undulates a bit. I wanted to put plastic tiles over it to soften it a bit and take the chill off when I'm lay under the car, but I don't think they would sit well due to the undulations. I thought about Versaroll, but as the poster above says, on line user reviews are not great.

I then got thinking about resin flooring, like they do on drives. I was in IKEA yesterday and they seem to have some sort of high friction resin on the stairs which seemed like it would make a good floor. Anyone had some sort f resin garage floor? I'm thinking it might be DIYable because I'd be starting with a smooth, solid and clean base.

I like carpet tiles, second hand off the bay, removed from refurb offices etc and cheap.
Someone once commented that the bitumen backing would be nice in a fire but will take that chance. Much warmer than concrete (painted).
Did wonder about ply on the floor but thought in time it may rot and the floor needs to be pretty even or the ply will rock.
