Spicing telephone wires

OOOPS.....Splicing not Spicing! haha




Googling isn't really providing me with the answer so though i'd try on here!

Need to remove a phone sockets (thats weirdly in our loo....hence me wanting to remove it!)

It has two wires coming out of it...i believe one is from the main socket (which is i front room, and where wires come in from street), and the other goes to the living room socket (which is where out internet and phone is plugged in)

Now i don't really wanna leave a box there, so is there any way of spicing the two wires together, then hiding them behind the skirt (there's room if its not too large)?

And is this is good idea? Or will it mess up my internet and phone?


...Have zero knowledge on telephone wiring so go easy on me....though i am competent in any other wiring.

I tried those jelly crimp things that are supposed to be used on phone stuff. Absolute garbage. Ended up binning them and using a block connector instead. Seems to be working fine.

Solder will make them go brittle won't it? I thought we tried to avoid soldering such tiny little wires.

If you can solder cleanly, that's fine, the main thing is to not have the wires bunched up, try and maintain the wires in a straight line with them twisted as a pair.

You can simply twist them together and tape them, put them in a connector, crimp or solder them etc. A million ways of doing it really. Bear in mine though the phone cable is solid core and very thin, it doesn't take a lot to snap it, I would not want any sort of joint behind the skirting board where you cant get to it again.

Any dodgy wiring can affect the internet speed, ideally the router should be plugged into the main socket but I don't see this makes an awful lot of difference if the internal wiring and sockets are in good condition. If possible you should run a new decent piece of cable direct between the incoming socket and where your phone is.
