Was wondering the cost of someone developing a very simple AR system for my company, NorDeck chairs (if you want to google).

Not many products to add, just wanted something that looks a bit better than fingo (still waiting for pricing up of app for me).

Is there any off the shelf software other than.

http://www.metaio.com/

I like the look of it, but its a lot more in depth than I need.

Weighing up the costs vs benefits, but as we are small company Im hoping its not too far out of the price range as it looks funky.

I've used this http://www.wikitude.com/ API for a project.. very good.. cost would depend on exactly what you're wanting the app to do?!..

using an iPad/iPhone/Android device and place a 3D picture of one of my chairs/stools using AR, so that the user of the app can see what it would look like in their room/balcony/garden/patio without having said chair already bought.

Just to see if the styling suits the rest of their property.

So it would just need to map the chairs/stools and let the user see through their device, place a piece of furniture in a theoretical spot that they would use it and see that through the device.

Does that make sense?

Only have 20 odd products so its probably not a lot of work to scan them, just wondering how much.

Cheers for the link I will look at it.

My company creates apps and also specialises in 3D. We've done quite a bit over the years with 3D on devices but never really got an AR project off the ground, looked into it many a time on behalf of clients though. Have you looked at Aurasma?

Been advised to look at that about an hour ago...

Its not going to change the world this app, just something a bit funky and something fun that I would like to get off the ground that my customers my like, that and a 3D assembly system built into to show people how it goes together along with the 3D picture system.

Thinking outside the box and have a bit of fun working out how to code it at the same time, Im a coder at heart so this why it interests me.

I know that not many have been able to make the technology work in a commercial sense, but that is not really what Im going for with this.

You're going to need to be a coder at heart when you look into all the different platforms you'll have to utilise to bring it together cross device etc!!! haha

Mobile device technology is currently where it needs to be in order to bring this type of thing to market. In the past the tech has limited us a little.

We were looking at Aurasma to show a logistics warehouse being built in 3D when the iPad was pointed at the site for a 'wow' from the commercial agents, decided against it in the end and they are a huge company.

I already develop trading platforms and work in mostly Microsoft tech stack, anything from multithreading, calculation engines, to front end GUI (windows/web/mobile) tech.

Cross development and bespoke coding is nothing new, it just seems like I will need to cobble it together myself instead of paying someone as its seems like it will be in the multiple of £k for them to do it.

So looks like I will be dabbling in my spare time, not that I really have any at the moment.

ahhhh ok - I take it back - in that case it sounds you would be qualified, I wasn't sure of you technical proficiency

I can't say I looked at the other two but wikitude was very good once you get your head around it. Used it in a different context to what you're looking for however..

sorry... didn't mean to sound big headed, I know tech but would rather not do it myself as thats my day job and I whilst like expanding my ideas, if I can get someone else to do it I will, as I don't have much spare time as I do day job and look after my retailers on my off time, so developing more tech would make my OH a little annoyed as we do enough with the company as it is.
