I have a sky+ box (white one, non hd) and looking to change it to a sky hd box.
What is the best way to do it? Am only on the family package, so not really interested in films/sports.
Do I contact sky? or buy 2nd hand box and do it myself, obviously I will have to pair the card to the new box so sky will know anyway.

Any advice

You can just get a second hand box plug it in ring them up get the card paired and away you go, you will get some free to air HD channels without paying more.

Or ring them up, say you are looking at going to Virgin or BT and blag a new HD box out of them maybe with some cheap HD package chucked in.(they will give you a new contract probably a year)

Having seen most systems and im loathed to say it but the sky HD system with its catch up TV built in is good, if you are going to pay for your telly then you may as well get the box out of them.

We made the same move six months ago - phoned Sky, they sent a new HD box. The subscription was slightly more for all the HD channels I think. I can't recall the exact figures but it was less than a fiver a month more.

I think this was the package we had & they upgraded our box free when we gave them a call about a hd box.

If you decide to source a second hand box instead of getting a new one from Sky we've just cancelled ours so you're welcome to the box if you pay the postage thumbup

Edit: Needs two inputs though if you want to record a different channel to the one you're watching so you may need to get Sky out anyway.
