I'm thinking of getting some new tyres on the Tuscan whilst my wheels are refurbed, but am struggling to come up with any alternatives to the Goodyear eagle asymmetrics I've got on there now. Nothing wrong with them but thought I'd check to see what people are using. I can't find any Sessanta's in the right size (225/40 and 255/35) unless anyone has any good links?

Also.. What's the difference between these 2 goodyears? I notice the fuel rating is much worse on the 2nd one so does that mean it's a different compound? I can't find anything on the net and Goodyear haven't come back to me yet.

I have goodyear F2's on the Tam. At the time, I went with the cheaper of the two options which happened to have the better wet grip rating, more important than fuel economy for the TIV! If those prices are supply only, Camskill are cheaper

If in doubt I'd opt for the cheaper one as it has rim protection.

Have you tried searching for a tyre with a lower load index? I managed to get Assym 2 with 89 rating and also not XL (can't remember the size I'm afraid) which means a more compliant ride, I think they're aimed at BMW/Audis which are 500kg heavier. Unfortunately couldn't get the same rating when changing the fronts.

Excellent tyres in wet and dry.

I think mine are the higher load index 93/94 - seems to ride OK certainly not too harsh

Didn't think you could still get T1-S/R or even the R1R tyres hence why people including myself went for an alternative

They do ride ok but given the choice a softer sidewall would be more compliant. The vast majority of my driving is on the road so the more the sharper pot holes can be rounded off the better.
I've just had a look at the Goodyear tyre selector and strangely it suggests 97's on the rear but 90's front.

Lower load ratings can invalidate your insurance and the tyre warranty . I tried to send some camskill and they did not want to know because TVR stated a higher load rating even if was a different size tyre .

I've narrowed the choice down to another set of Eagle F1, or Yokohama AD08R.

Only thing that's now potentially putting me of changing to the AD08R is that it doesn't specify that it has specific rim protection, so i'm not sure if sticking with my current 225/40 size on the front will make the tyre look too stretched??

This is the current 225/40 Goodyear.

So i'm pretty sure that a tyre without the slightly enlarged bead will still look ok?

I suppose I could try it and see, and if not then go back to 255's on the front as well and see how I get on!

I'm pretty sure you can get the R1R in 225/40 and 255/35.

However i've placed an order now for some Yoko AD08R tyres.... they certainly look nice!! Time will tell on whether the 225 look a bit too stretched but that's a risk worth taking for the moment.

Would love them, but cannot find them in the sizes required.

Would these be OK:

Rear - Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta - 235/40 R18 Y (95) £106.39
Front - Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta - 225/40 R18 Y (92) £93.39

The Sessanta's do have great reviews and more importantly seem to have good feedback from other TVR owners so sounds like a good choice. They were on my list but I can't get the rears.

I didn't realise the Tam ran a slightly slimmer rear width. If you fancy the ad08 then might be worth checking if anyone has gone to a 255 rear on a Tam without any issue.

Also nothing wrong with the Goodyear f1's so worth a look at those if they come in the right size too.

Could a slighty wider tyre go on the rears, then, with the standard TVR alloys? The more contact surface, the better!

Hi Chris - a 255 will fit but on some cars may rub the arches a little, much like the 40 profile fronts will rub for some smile
TVR stadrad on the front was 35 but very few tyes are now available as a matching set in this size hence the 225/40.
Standard rear on the Tam/350 is 235/40 but as said there are a few people who've moved to the 255.
I've stuck with the 235 and have just had a full set of Eagle F1 Asym 2's fitted - albeit it helped that I won the recent PH tyre comp wink

Ah, OK, cheers - I shall stick to the tyres I saved then. I have 35's on the front now, but the wheel rim is ridiculously close to the ground with that profile. I figuered that I could have the ride height on my Nitrons adjusted to compensate the higher profile on the front.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to find matched sets for front and rear, so am looking to see what works as alternatives, sizes etc.

Tell me about it…
I couldn’t find any decent matching sets with a 225/35 front.
The Eagle F1s are available front 225/40 and rear 235/40

So not keen on Toyo T1sport, Falken FK453, Hankook Ventus V12, Bridgestone Potenza S001, Pirelli P zero Nero, for example?

They will not look stretched. AD08s seem to have much greater tread width than other makes of the same size, here is a comparison with a T1R (both mounted).
