Pointless post I'm afraid.
Time On Earth = 80 ish years
Time in Heaven/Hell = Forever
So why would any true believer do anything other than follow his gods wishes. Anyone religious person who does otherwise isn't really religious, just hedging his bets
Exactly. May as well do nice things for a month then kill yourself and reap the rewards for eternity. Time On Earth = 80 ish years
Time in Heaven/Hell = Forever
So why would any true believer do anything other than follow his gods wishes. Anyone religious person who does otherwise isn't really religious, just hedging his bets

It was set up as a poll, not a discussion, and a poll for religious people to vote in.Time On Earth = 80 ish years
Time in Heaven/Hell = Forever

But thanks anyway for your opinion.

Why can't the PH militant atheist squad just leave a thread asking for religious peoples opinion alone? Is it because there aren't enough threads for you all to smugly congratulate each other on how much cleverer you are than the religious? Or perhaps you can't pass up a chance to try and convert a few god-botherers?

You did read that this is a poll JUST for religious people?
My bad - Apologies. Not being religious perhaps I won't get forgiven then....... :-)However didn't vote so didn't corrupt the result in any way so conscience is clear.
PS TO the person above who quoted the line re atheists - I have generally foud the opposite to be true. The vocally pious tend to shout about it louder in my experience as if in some way to nullify their being total bellends. To me a dhead is a dhead - irrespective of what they believe.
However the ensuing debate is illuminating if we take away the rough edges (mine included)
OK Religious people only should vote, but those of no faith/questioning validity of faith should be equally free to contribute. I would like to think I live my life by very Christian like values - even if I am a non believer - yet many believers don't practice what they preach. And therein lies the interesting part of the discussion. Why is this so??
I remember an interesting wee snippet from my school days
Sex is evil
Evil is a sin
Sins are forgiven
So get stuck in
:-)

I've now come to the conclusion that religions exist to keep impoverished populaces from revolting against their masters.
In other words, you need to accept impoverishment in this world because you will be rewarded for all eternity.
Nail, head, hit. In other words, you need to accept impoverishment in this world because you will be rewarded for all eternity.
I find it incredulous that any human being capable of rational thought is capable of being indoctrinated by this nonsense.
Seriously? All knowing, all seeing, invisible man that you must worship for fear of eternal damnation? (modest isn't he) Really? Just for one minute think about the bullst you are being asked you to believe.
The reason that a lot of atheists are evangelical is because they have indeed seen the light.
It's all made up. By man. To control man. Once you're free of the lies it's beautiful

Don't get me wrong, if it gives people comfort and hope then all well and good, and I won't decry it. However the reasons above, plus the fact the utter contempt with which the various religions seem to regard one another being totally at odds with anything they preach. For that reason I am out.......

How do you know if someone's an atheist? Don't worry, they'll fking well tell you.
Yes, I wish they'd stop knocking on my door trying to convert me, the pushy godless bds.
And why the hell should there be 26 leading atheists automatically in the House of Lords? Outrageous. And as for tax breaks for atheist organisations, don't get me started.
And atheist schools, where your kid can't get in unless the parents read Dawkins's books 3 out of 4 Sundays.
I'm sick of it. I wish people would treat their atheism like their penis; keep it to themselves and don't ram it down the throats of children.
