Looks like Joko Widodo is going to have his way.
The death sentence for trafficking hard class A drugs I don't have a problem with.
however leaving them waiting for 9 years and now executing as quickly he can more for what seem to be for political gains and kudos at home, rather than what they did, I do have issues with that.
And there is also the rumour that someone in the AFP (aussie feds) tipped off Bali plod in-spite of a no info unless death sentence is not going to be be sought rule.

You know I don't really know my views on the death penalty as I think I "float" depending on what it is.Looks like Joko Widodo is going to have his way.

I can't honestly say I think drugs deserves it, but that said, I've never been to Indonesia but even I know that if you set foot their with drugs and you get caught, you're pretty much dead - don't they have like massive fking signs the moment you get off the plane?
All the politics to one side it seems a very easy predicament to avoid - don't smuggle drugs in countries that will kill you if they catch you with them.

Really? And I mean the hard core professional for a living cartel types will happy kill you, family and friends if you get in their way.
Thats trafficking.
I'm not quite 100% sure these aussies fall into that group though, also small fish dealers who are at the bottom chain or people who have done it under duress, never.

If its 100% bang to rights and 100kgs of the stuff, how many people will that kill with OD's?
Probably easier to start with Tobacco distributers then, easier to find, kills more people and it sends out a strong message cirian75 said:

Indeed, thankfully the alcohol cartels never took off as it's easier to nip down Weatherspoons than smuggle it over the border.Thats trafficking.
I don't agree with the death penalty, but for the Australians to plead for these men's lives on the basis that they are Aussies, rather than try to persuade the Indonesians to abolish the death penalty is not tenable. They're effectively saying that Aussies' lives matter more than those of Indonesians.

I drew the same conclusion and this must irritate the Indonesians no end.Been to Indo a few times and spent 3 months living in Bali in 2014.
Don't bring drugs in to the country. Do not have anything to do with drugs there!
I knew about their policy, but also found that people I met there were very clear about the rules/law.
This is not like going out in London or going to Ibiza where pretty much a blind eye is turned to a little bit of coke or a few E's.
They have agent provocateurs operating in Bali - buy something from them and you will be arrested. You will do serious jail time, unless you are very rich (Korupsi!)
One of the reasons that the appeals have failed is that the Indonesians are starting to look at their place in the world. A few years ago they might have accepted early release of Australians or other westerners but not so much now as they realise that Indonesians should not be treated as a lower class in their own country and one law should apply to all.
Of all the countries to pick these people made a big mistake and are going to pay the price.

Indonesia a corrupt and horrid country - another great example of the peaceful religion. Whilst I don't have much sympathy for drug-dealers in general - fair play to Abbott for attempting to secure their release. On a more selfish note, I hope this doesn't result in a travel ban for my Perth relatives who visit Bali regularly because there will be political consequences.
