Try it with bonnet open and listen for a slight click-click-click though, some starters will fire the pinion out first before it tries to crank and once the pinion has fired that makes the connection for the round roundy bit. The pinion inny-outty bit is low current draw so it won't dim the lights and if it doesn't complete the starter won't do the roundy roundy bit and it won't make the whirry engine turny noise.
That is one of the funniest things I've read for a long time... biggrin

It's a year old. Get it back to Ford, it's their problem.

Scarble, Have you ever thought about writing Haynes style service books?

Would be perfect for the Mrs!

As is usual with people that buy 'new' cars - reading the instructions is way too intelligent for them to do. Why, oh why are you bothering to even open the bonnet. The car is under warranty so you just ring up the nearest Ford dealer and get the car recovered and sorted. But, of course, that will take the use of 2 brain cells, and as you were only issued with 1, you're in a bit of a pickle.

God spare us from the thickoes in our society.

I bet your local garage loves you. The guy who books his car in every time a bulb blows, or the tyres look a bit flat.

I thought this was a thread about the inherent stability of the Ford Fiesta ST when thrown into a corner at high speed paperbag

Open and close every door, the bonnet and the boot. Lock and unlock the car. Try and start it.

Probably won't work but it fixed a non-starting problem with my old M3 (dodgy bonnet sensor).

Well I got home and gave it a check over, tried locking door with key etc.
Then checked the fuse box in the engine compartment starter relay fuse was fine but I gave the starter relay a bit of a wiggle about lifted it up and pressed it in again, car started no problem after that!

Don't quite understand what happened there but I'll keep an eye on it and if it does it again I'll drop by a Ford dealer with it.

Cheers for all your suggestions guys. smile

Maybe it was just wibbly, maybe the hole it goes in is too big (it happens sometimes), maybe you hit a big bump and it fell out, bit if it happens again, by all means take it to the brum brum shop but you might want to pull it out and see if it's wobbly or all icky (maybe it is getting wet?) smile

Ancient Chinese proverb (maybe): If you can't explain it to a child, you don't understand it.
I live by this and often describe things in these terms at work, the more complex the problem, the more simplerer you need to explain it.

Glad it's sorted(ish) thumbup
