Hello
I have bought a 1.6 tdci focus and within 50 miles the eml came on. I handed it in to a local garage for diagnosis and they told me the fault was the egr and needed replaced. Was going to cost £400 so i figured i could save some cash and sort it myself.
I phoned the seller of the car and he said a friend looked at it but could not fault it.so i ordered a new egr from my local factors and it doesnt fit correctly ,i had started stripping the old one out only to find it was blocked off!! Now i find out that a new egr will need to go to ford to be programmed at a cost of £65 + vat. The questions are...i dont really want to drive it with the eml coming on and off so is there a cheaper way to programme the egr or do i have to bite the bullet and get ripped off by ford. thanks gordon

The light usually does come on when the EGR is blanked. Some people drill a 10mm hole in the blanking plate to let some gasses through to appease the sensors and stop the light coming on.

Or remove the blanking plate and resume normal service?

Thanks. I think the previous owner had issues with it hence why it was blocked off. I i could remove blank and see what happens but i have paid for diagnostic and a reset already and paid for the egr too.
