How many "for sale" ads do you still see that say..taxed until etc. dealers as well as regular numpties. Are the rules that dificult to understand. Also whats your thoughts re said numpty dealer/private seller that adds that.....

Some dealers will realise that on the advert that looks good. And when you're in the excitement of getting your new car, casually throw in that you need to tax it yourself, which will click when you're half way home.

Seen this loads recently.

Even worse is the exclamation of a cambelt change but then continue to say it was done 70k ago in 2008...so it's overdue then, great selling point Mr Dealer

With cambelt replacement at 150K miles or every ten years?? Plenty of life left in this one. Some vehicles even have long service intervals now...rolleyes

Is it not them saying 6months or 12months tax included ?

A lot of people have been trading cars into me and are just unaware of the tax change because it's always been the way they just don't know different. The vast majority are pretty clued up and know about the direct debits and the other changes.

We still get occasional threads about, "how does this new tax thing work?" from supposed car enthusiasts. The section of the general public that can't work out lane discipline is going to have no chance understanding the tax changes.

Its very difficult. I'll try to simplify it.

Basically its....

Your selling a car....tax isnt included.

Your buying a car.....tax isnt included.

I saw one the other day that said "car has 6 months tax, but due to the new law you'll have to tax it again".

So why even bother telling me!

Because there is an ever growing section of scrotes that will pass on the logbook in full and not send it back to the DVLA until the tax has expired....

I wouldn't say it's been that well publicised.

My car is taxed till the end of the year, and I didn't know (until now) that it couldn't be transferred with the car if I were to sell.

Was well aware of the change that means you no longer need to display.... but nothing more.

But I'm not looking at selling or buying at the moment.. so it's irrelevant to me right now.

Same here until recently. I only knew that the need to display the tax disc has finally gone because everything is electronic now. I have no idea why they cancel the road tax when there's a change of ownership! They gave with one hand, and took with the other!

Indeed! When there are idiots out there who can't understand basic English, how can you possibly expect the general public to understand the new tax rules?
