I have a ST 170 and the steering is not right. Can't put my finger on it though. Has anyone ever changed the power steering fluid and did it make any difference.
What spec fluid should I use.
Thanks.

I've changed the PAS oil on my Focus a few years ago. Here's the method I used.

1) drain reservoir - I syphoned mine out, but you can buy a cheap turkey baster from a supermarket to suck it out.

2) cover over the auxiliary belt and have a suitable drip tray under PAS reservoir to catch the remaining oil.

3)disconnect both hoses from reservoir and remove PAS reservoir from vehicle.

4) clean out reservoir and filter gauze. I filled mine with washing-up water, blocked open connections and shook it about. I then rinsed it with fresh water and then sprayed brake cleaner inside and out. I left it to fully dry over lunch.

5) find a drill bit that fits tight inside the return pipe connection on reservoir.

6) refit reservoir into position and reconnect supply hose only. Leave drill bit in return connection.

7) place return hose in 2 litre empty container on floor

8) refill reservoir with fresh oil as high as possible.

9) You should disable the engine from starting and crack it over whilst keeping the reservoir topped up, but I was brave and quickly kept it topped up on idle and had someone to hand to shut the engine down. (if you do, you need to have a full litre to hand and be very quick topping up to prevent pump running dry)

10) the return line will spill out the old oil.

11) when you've got fresh oil coming from the return line, stop cranking (or the engine) and preferably when the reservoir is pretty much empty (to reduce spillage when you reconnect return hose).

12) cover up aux belt again and get drain tray to hand.

13) remove drill bit and refit return hose to reservoir.

14) top up reservoir and clean off any spilt oil with brake cleaner.

15) make sure there's no oil spilt on aux belt, if you have then thoroughly clean it off with brake cleaner.

You won't get every drop of the old oil out, but it gets the majority of it out.

Just an update on the wayward steering on my Focus. I changed the power steering fluid. This made a slight difference. Better. Then bought 4 new tyres. Hankook. Transformed the car. No more tramlining and much much quieter.
When I bought the car I think the previous owner had refurbed the wheels and I think he replaced the tyres with part worn ones. These were worn very unevenly causing my dodgy steering.
I now have a great handling car with excellent brakes just not a lot of go. Second and third are great round the lanes but I have 3 gears left! When I was checking out my leaking thermostat housing today I noticed a sensor tie wrapped to the battery case. It had 2 wires going to it and was about 2 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. Anyone know where this should go or what it does.
