Hi All,

I'm considering moving my Civic TypeR on later this year as much as I love it I have a nagging feeling that doing 25K a year I should be in something more sensible as a daily. The V50 is a car whose looks I really like, it's in budget and the D5 sounds like a good engine. I will likely tow a race car with it every now and again so I'm thinking an auto so I don't have any clutch worries.

Here is an example of what I'm thinking of: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V50-2-4-D5-SE-Spor...

So volvo owners, school me. The good, the bad and the ugly.

I'm 6 months into a 2008 V50 D5. Absolutely love it as a daily. Most comfortable seat I've ever sat in, lovely interior and a good looking thing if you ask me. I held out and went for the manual to benefit from the extra torque (400Nm plays 350Nm in the auto). Either way a punchy motorway mile muncher.

Word of warning on those 18" Medusa alloys, they look great but I tested one with these and it crashed and smashed around horrifically. The 17" offer a far nicer ride.

Great engine, awful gearbox, avoid the 18's as mentioned its a terrible ride with them.

Cheers for the feedback so far.

What's wrong with the box?

It was just an old old design, the car from day 1 should have had the 6 speed geartronic but they fitted an old 5 speed auto, had the same effect with the T5 engine regrettably, robs the engine of a lot of power and is a very very slow witted gearbox even on a good day.

Drive an Auto then a Manual and you wont believe its the same engine in it.
