Got a bit of a hankering for one of these to commute and trackday in, definitely a cup and hopefully with a few tasty options like the recaros and Renault monitor.

What I'm struggling with is what the 265 Cup gives over the 250 Cup, is it literally just a light remap, a few spec changes and facelifted looks? They command quite a premium so I'm wondering if the 250 might actually be the better deal. I'll probably keep it for around two years and 40 to 50k miles so less depreciation is better, but my budget could get me into a 2 year old car with the balance of the Renault four year warranty and servicing pack......

The car will be staying stock, I don't fancy putting the extra stress of remapping it and then thrapping it round the track as it will also be my daily driver. I'm probably being over-cautious, but that's just me. wink

I've found the answer - it's just a switchable remap, slightly different exhaust and the trim changes as I suspected. Renault claim to have reworked the inlet but the part numbers are apparently the same between the 250 and 265 so christ alone knows what they've done, if anything smile

I'd have this - http://jksc.co.uk/listing/863/

These cars really are "giant killers"

That was one of the ones I was looking at, but as per usual I've done a complete 360 and am looking at something else now wink

Bloody lovely car though.

Always the way, my girlfriend thinks that I enjoy the torture of deciding but I really don't!

I think it's hard to go wrong with a 265, it does EVERYTHING!

In the Alps I would take anything on in that and if top speed is your thing I'm amazed at how fast it can go for the money without it being something like a mega mile derestricted AMG etc

Looking for one too atm. The 265 just isn't worth the premium IMO. You can get a 300bhp remap for £500 on a RS250. I drove a Trophy with 19 inch wheels on and the ride was very hard/too hard IMO for anything but motorways.

Also, nice though the Recaros are, getting in and out every day was easier with standard seats.

Apart from the 15 extra horsepower and a couple of cosmetic changes, they're identical underneath.

To be honest, even the new 275 Trophy is identical apart from the optional Ohlins dampers. Renault got these cars right the first time round. (The Trohpy R does have other changes though such as the front brake discs).

With regards to the map. The 250 has a Normal and Sport mode. The car is noticeably more responsive in Sport mode and will pop on downshifts - and from what a former Renault engineer said on another forum, they are two separate maps - but the power is apparently the same.

Where the 265 differs is that it has the same normal mode as the 250, but the sport mode not only has the extra map tweaks to make it more responsive, but only in Sport do you get the additional 15hp. (Not on the 265 Trohphy though! Which has 265 HP all the time!).

I can't say enough good things about my 250 - I considered trading it in for newer models, but they just don't offer enough over the base 250 to make it worthwhile.

Running costs on these are quite sensible too. None of my services have crossed the £250 mark, with the first expensive service being the 6th year which will be the belt change.

Well, I went and ignored my own advice and bought a 265! TBH I just got fed up spending hours going to see RS250 that were just really poor. On Friday I went to see one with 30,000m and FSH which turned out to be 1 stamp and 12,000, new tyres in Feb that were absolutely shagged already and it wasn't liquid yellow, it was just solid yellow. Fed up, I called a dealer and bought a RS265 lux with all the toys (not Recaros but I didn't really want then tbh) and 19s (for no other reason than I like the look of them). Pick it up next Saturday smile
