I want a roll cab for us in my garage, looked at the under £100 boxes and TBH they are a bit flimsy. So any recommendations. Halfords industrial look good but the only deals are with a top box.

How big and how much are you willing to pay? There's an enormous variation out there. I just bought a US Pro stainless steel one from ebay and am pretty happy with it for the money; I suspect it's vastly bigger (and more expensive) than anything Halfords sell, though.

If there's good deals available on sets you could always buy one of them and sell the top-box on.

Second hand tools on ebay are really great value for money.

I looked at roll cabs in Halfords today, the Pro range not quite what I want, the Industrial ones look OK. I've got a couple of Snap on 3 drawer boxes so that's the sort of build quality I'm looking for. £200 for a roll cab or £300 for the 2 Ind boxes is my limit.

I suspect you're not going to get a decent sized Snap-On quality roller cabinet for <£500, at least not new. There's enormous diminishing returns at that end of the market but you still have to pay if you want it.

In my experience, for home use almost anything is study enough. I had a cheap horrible non-bearing one for 10 years and it still worked fine when I upgraded it. Unless you're going to use it all day, every day anything more that the cheapest rubbish is probably a vanity.

I worked for a big race car builder and Snap on boxes were like a willy extension on the shop floor there, the bigger the better biggrin.

hehe They genuinely are good and anything as good is just as expensive... but for DIY use that sort of quality simply isn't necessary, in my experience.

The black Halfords roll cab and top box was £300 before Christmas, if they drop to that again soon I'll buy them. If not a used Snap off ebay it is. I'd rather pay a bit more and get years out of it.

I'm still dubious that even a cheap cabinet will fail to last longer than you'll live, but it's your money and having just spent nearly 800 quid on a chest myself, I can certainly understand the wish to justify something shiny. hehe

Usually around bank holidays etc, i bought mine for £299 for the pair over christmas. I would also look at the us pro tools stuff on ebay as previously mentioned, supposed to be very good quality.

To be honest I think to get a decent Snap On cab for under £500 quid is not going to be easy unless you settle for a scruffy dog ,they are worth the money ,I had one for above 25 years and parted wih it around 12 months ago it was far from even tidy but still locked and rolled ,perhaps foolishly Isold it for around 125£ .The trouble buying of the bay unless its close to you is opinions of condition are very variable/personal .Locate your local Snap On dealer you may be better served buying from him

No repeat on the £299 bundle deal so far, I'll wait for the next bank holiday before I give up on Halfords.

Asked in Halfords today and they reckon it's a Christmas only deal.

If you have plenty room then Costco (in store not online) usually have something suitable at a reasonable price.

I don't have a Costco card and they're miles from me. Halfords are chucking in a middle box for £399 now but I don't need one.

Where abouts in the country are you?

I'm keen to buy a middle box only, I already have the roll cab and top chest. Had them about 2 years and they get well used. Still as new except some sun fade to the lid, but in fairness it's always open and against a window smile

With the current bundle deal I could have the middle box for £100 and you'd get the top chest and roll can for £299 smile
