Britannia Tuesday Southampton

Should be a good party, with the Queen coming down to name her.
I was out on the water today and the new ship looks great. Strange though, now that it's painted up in red, white and blue all over the hull, other ships are having the same done!
Today in port was Oceana, and one of the Aida fleet, both with red, white and blue paint jobs.

To be fair, I've been on Ventura, which can't be much smaller than Britannia, and it's so big that the ship can polarise into (a) shouty types around the pool at one end, and (b) normal people at the other. The two rarely meet. We go to the Saffron Restaurant, they go to the motorway caff on the top floor, and everyone's happy!

I'm taking the family on royal carribeans new anthem of the seas in august. Never been on a cruise liner before so it will be interesting experience.
I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. I was on board a royal Caribbean ship last summer as a guest for the day and they were a brilliant ship and very impressive including a Morgan on board in the high street (I believe every royal Caribbean ship now has one - just checked and here's the interesting story behind it http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2014/01/17/why-a...I have also been on one of the princess ships as a passenger and would happily go on another cruise again.

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all, but really?.........I was out on the water today and the new ship looks great.........
I'm sure it'll be lovely to have a cruise on, but it's an awkward looking thing, dressed in the image of 'Britishness' to pull in the punters.

Modern Cruise ships do not convey the beauty of the Liners of old, but i have to say that Britannia is definitely one of worst to look at, although i am sure when inside it will be very different, which is what the punters are paying for!!

Even by cruise ship standards it's had a thorough going over with the ugly stick. However, I suppose the view from it will be better than the view of it, or at least it will be once it leaves Southampton.
I think that's a very good summary, after all when your on board everything looks brilliant. So why would a passenger be concerned with its looks. However if you want an aesthetically pleasing ship then you have to look at a liner like the QM2 personally I don't like the branding on the side of Britannia along with its nose art. gazzarose said:
We're going on Brittania in July. Is going to be our first time on a cruise so we started out small, just Guernsey and back, but I'm looking forward to it.
We haven't cruised before and are thinking of doing that, it's still under discussion at the moment, I'll re-post when a decision has been made by the powers that be.I don't think it matters much what it looks like from the outside but my wife quite likes the look of it on the inside, she says it looks a lot more tasteful than some of the other ships.
My gran does a lot of cruises, in fact they asked from Southampton with P&O and saw Brittania on her berth, and they live it. It was a bit of a spur of the moment thing with us. I saw the advert with Rob Bryony, and whether I fall for adverts too easily or I just trusted a fellow Welshman I don't know, but when the wife got home I asked shall we go on a cruise. We went for the 2 night one to have a bit of a taster and even though everyone says who won't be sick on a cruise ship , including my gran (who wasill for the first 2 days of this week on her cruise, I do do suffer from sea sickness (and believe it or not I work in a boatdealership). Not a very ph holiday to, I can't imagine the are any roads on Brittania however big she seems.

Fred Olsen do an offer where if you don't like the cruise in the first 2 days they'll give you your money back. Whether they dump you in the nearest port or arrange return air travel I can't recall...Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
