Provided there is a reasonable payment and both parties sign the agreement, then anything is enforceable. It happens every day in compromise agreements - a payment is made, both parties don't discuss and X doesn't seek employment for Y months.

If the employer pays 18 months salary for a 12 month contract, with a clause about not doing this or that in the 6 months after the end, then that is enforceable

But like you say, none of us have seen the contract, so any speculation about what specific terms it contains is just total bks really...

Yes a clause preventing JC from making car shows for a 'reasonable' amount of time should be enforcible,

So what is reasonable? I would say 6 - 12 months but who knows.

I think his military documentaries are better than most of his car shows anyway. So was the Brunel one come to that.

I am sure there is some non competing clause so he can't start another similar show up. I think he will carry making shows just not about cars.
He's got lawyers. I doubt they would have agreed to that at contract negotiation.

He sold his rights with the share can't imagine he thought he would be sacked so any possibility is probable until we see the contract

Did he cash in his chips while the brand was still worth something - and because he knew that his time at the BBC would coming to an end in the near future? Can't help wondering if the lack of a new contract on the table resulted in him throwing his toys out of the pram.

I'm still convinced that this is a brilliant set up by Clarkson.

He wanted a new project. To be sacked turns the hate for 'ruining a national institution ) on BBC not him.

I'd expect Clarkson to extend his News International contract to a new Sky show. With Oisin as a producer.

An extreme tactic no?

Smack a junior in he mouth, and go from lovable oaf to bullying ahole.
And get a possible criminal record for assault

I thought the new contracts had been on the table for some time, and rather it was the three amigos that had shown no inclination to sign up to that point.....?
Possibly one of the reasons for a gradual simmering of on-set tension as this series neared the end.....

I still think JC and Wileman (and possibly May as well) didn't want to continue beyond this series....?

Next Problem... "Top Gear Live" Does the BBC stop them and face £10M in compensation and refunds or do a deal with Clarkson? And on that Bombshell.....

Got to love the dilemma the Daily Mail is in. On the one hand they hate the BBC and they are using this as a stick to beat them with. On the other Clarkson was one of those they loved to beat up. Morals does the mail have them??

Given the BBC's willingness to squander public money in the past, I don't think they'd blink about having to can the 'Live' TG's as well, or they will reformat the 'Live' shows as per what they decide to do with the TV show.

It will be interesting to see what they put in place.

Interesting Article in this weeks News Review in the Sunday Times....will post later!

But there may be hope...Messrs Clarkson, Hammond, May & Wilman had lunch last week (the day after the sacking) and apparently they were discussing how they could do something in a similar vein with a different broadcaster...it devolved into a bit of a drunken reminiscence...but clearly there is something else potentially in the works..

Rather fantastically, Dave screened an old TopGear at 8pm last night.

I hadn't re-watched the Middle East Special for a while, so that was nice.

No idea, but if not, Dave will no doubt show it again in 3-4 months.
